My EDC folder...why did you select yours

I carried a Phat BOB for a long time but these days I usually edc my Cold Steel Raja III. I love how tight it locks and the steel isn't half bad!

Well, thanks to RogueBowie, now I have to keep my hand from clicking the checkout button on that Rat 1.....

Daizee, I have to agree with you, a lot of the paraframe is crap (mostly the handle for me), but I figure I'll either get it duracoated and keep it as a back-up, or just give it to my brother.

I was carrying this very same knife on Sept. 11 2001 in NYC when the planes hit. I was there and watched the whole thing unfold from the roof of my apartment in the east village. Later in the day a bunch of friends and I went to donate blood but there was a national guard barricade setup with concrete walls and razor wire at 14th street so we couldn't get past. Turned around went to the store and bought some food and I opened it with my dragonfly. That's why I remember I had this knife and that's why I'm carrying it today. I took this picture in my apple orchard the other day. Going to be a good crop this year. Think I need a Vic farmer though

I'm a fan of spyderco and kershaw folders, I've had to sell all my kershaws but one, but don't think I'll ever sell any of my spydies!

I think if you try a tenacious you'll understand spyderco knives oxide

During work I use my modded endura 4 all day for masking cars, I removed material from the top of the blade to get a finer point to use for cutting tape in recessed areas like on bumpers (like an xacto knife) also use it instead of razor blades for general cutting of masking paper

It's lite, disappears in my pocket, and holds a great edge, I just strop it on fridays and it's perfect for the following week

Actually, I EDC 3 folders (if you include the Vic Swiss Spirit as a folder). Ignore the Benchmade in the picture.

The little Buck Alpha Dorado is my favourite folder ( I have 2 - 1 in 420HC and 1 in 154CM [pictured]. I use it for all kinds of tasks from cutting up cardboard and plastic to carving trap triggers. Quite stout for its size. The Vic Spirit is my SAK. It replaced a Vic Ranger, although I never thought it would happen - loved that Vic Ranger, just love the Spirit a little bit more and the needlenose gets used every day at work.

The Spyderco Sprint Run Manix I carry, because I never know when I might get finished work early, head to the woods and need to carve up a fire board of some such - a very stout knife.

I have considered replacing my Buck with an Izula II but have hesitated because of possible problems with sheeple customers.

Im usually carrying a zt0350, sage 2,sebenza, or a mini grip. Then sometimes a leek or cold steel voyager. But then theres always the fallkniven u2 and sak/sebenza combo

What state are you in Mr.hurty? my aussie safe EDC is either an alox soldier or case stockman. SAKs and penknives are specifically mentioned for queensland as being acceptable. as for fixedblades, they just have to make sense. So instead of a legal knife you carry a locking one-hand opener which is the type of knife they look for?

i used a sog flash 2 for a while then a case trapperlock a few slippies and eventually a GEC 85

Well, for the longest time it was a Kershaw Tanto Blur. I liked the shape of the handle and the assisted opening more than anything, but I hated the blade shape and the serrations. I eventually ended up getting a Leatherman Skeletool CX which replaced the Blur since it was almost the same size but added pliers, screwdriver, and a bottle opener. Smaller blade, but I didn't really need anything that big at the time. Then, during one of my more persuasive days, I convinced my mom to get me a Pohl Force Alpha Two, which I then carried for almost a year straight. It was huge. I wanted it because it was the most awesome looking tacticool thing I had seen that still looked to be a quality knife (and it most definitely is) but later, I became convinced that a knife of that size just really didn't belong in my pocket all the time.

ThePointyEnd was looking for a good folder awhile back, so I pointed him at Kershaw, and several of their offerings, mentioning the Blur as having a nice handle. I figured he would go with something else, but he snagged himself a Blur and the first time I got to see it I instantly wanted another one, especially since I had learned that they made other blade shapes, and had ones without the serrations. So during a trip down to New Graham Knives (best knife store I have had the pleasure of being in btw) I picked up an S30v Blur, and was happy as could be. At this point, no other folders that were within a reasonable price range really caught my attention, and although I liked the beefiness of the ZT knives, the only one that had really struck my fancy was the 0560, which at that point was still fairly rare, and at a price much higher than I wanted to pay for one. Then, about a month or two back, after having seen thread after thread after thread about the 0560, I finally managed to snag one for myself at a really good price and I haven't looked back since. It is the perfect happy medium between the Pohl Force Alpha Two and the Blur for me, and that has cemented it's place in my pocket (although I do still always carry the Leatherman Skeletool CX in the other pocket).

No, I have not, mostly because the models I liked from them are the same price I would pay for another BK2 or a signed 17.

Folders typically have twice as many parts as fixed blade knives and require more precision to manufacture well. They SHOULD cost more than an equal-size fixie. Your value system is over-Americanized (bigger is better).

My Vic Huntsman goes with me everywhere I can take it and I use the heck out of it. Just did some amateur gun smithing with it tonight and will almost certainly open some tuna with it tomorrow - and who knows what else...

On the very rare occasions when I'm not EDCing my BK11, this Spyderco Native goes in its place (in addition to the Huntsman, of course). It's a reasonably priced USA made blade and I'm really digging the steel and the ergonomics of the thing. Great knife!

Yeesh. Seriously. Get you a decent knife man! 'Heads don't let 'Heads EDC Gerber!

Tenacious or something better from Spyderco, anything from Kershaw (Blur probably the best value), or any number of Benchmade ones (I really like their HK lineup, but there are plenty of nice cheap ones; maybe even a Griptilian). Or the Phat Bob. Get you some! Or even a Cold Steel folder. TBH, Tenacious is the knife I use to get people into better quality knives. I've gifted 6 of them so far, all to non-knife people, and none of them will go anywhere without their Tenacious any more. Only problem is, they also aren't interested in a better quality knife, because they can't fathom a knife being enough better to warrant giving up carrying their precious Tenacious. If it were Made In USA, it would be pretty much the perfect starter knife.

Yes, Tenacious is great. I have a friend who also was getting into knives, buying new ones here and there, and then literally after he got a blue G10 Tenacious he hasn't bought another knife except for a few SAKs, no other dedicated single blade folders though. He sees no reason to kick it out of his pocket. I still second the Rat 1 though :D

I'm thinking about getting a Cryo in my grubby little mitts. Baby hinderererer design, Kershaw warranty, Made in the USA (I believe), $30, Assisted Open. I'm trying to find a flaw with it... It isn't a becker is about the only thing.

The Spyderco Endura was just about perfect for my EDC needs except the plastic clip didn't work all that well. The metal clip model works perfectly. Fits my hand and my front pocket. Does the job. You can still get one in the Pacific Salt H1 version.

Like I said earlier, (short version of my pros/cons list) all I need in a folder is decent quality and a decent sized blade and handle, decent sized means 3.5" minimum for me, and I like weight, so I don't mind it being all metal instead of something like g10 grips. I really don't want nor need to spend $80 on a folder, $20 is my sweet-spot and $30 is my top end, because of the same size that I want and price of a small fixed blade (BK11)

So I guess this is an intervention? Ok, fine. I'll take a closer look at the ones I've overlooked... That Rat 1 page is still open and tempting me...
