My EDC folder...why did you select yours

So I guess this is an intervention? Ok, fine. I'll take a closer look at the ones I've overlooked... That Rat 1 page is still open and tempting me...

Tenacious is probably the closest to being in your price point. BM HK Monochrome is probably pretty close to being in your price point as well, especially if you look on the Exchange. And you can probably get the best price on the Blur or your other favorite Kershaw by getting a blem from Kershawguy. If you just don't use a folder, that's fine, I guess. But if you DO, definitely recommend you give one of the big 3 a try. Just try not to get TOO hooked. Time was, I was in the same boat as you. Now, I can't bring myself to EDC anything but knives that run $200+... It's a bit worse than Beckeritis.

This is my EDC folder. It's a full custom job, so it's the result of many decisions and selections. I also carry a leathermann kick, mainly for other tools it provides.
The folder has a 7cm blade, is 2hand operated and non-locking - due to ridiculous knife laws in Denmark. If I could, I would be EDC'ing a good bowie, because you just never know when.

I'm thinking about getting a Cryo in my grubby little mitts. Baby hinderererer design, Kershaw warranty, Made in the USA (I believe), $30, Assisted Open. I'm trying to find a flaw with it... It isn't a becker is about the only thing.

Nope, made in China. You can't make a quality tool in the USA for that price.
Yes, it's beautiful. It may even be good.

Good man.

here are my three EDC folders. my SAK and Juice CS4 live in bags now, not pockets.
The Boker gets the most IWB time - it's really a sweet spot. Steel is eh, but workable (Chinese, alas. bought the same time as my BK2, and probably the last outsourced blade I'll buy)
The CRKT is a decent blade, but now it lives in my m/c jacket. Pocket clip is a bit weak. (Taiwan - bought years ago)
The Kershaw is waiting for action. I have two issues with this otherwise decent blade: 1) it's cold against skin IWB, and 2) it needs a deep style clip, which I can get. I LOVE my JYD-II, but it's too big to be legal in my state. :-/

All my EDCs, in order of ownership and carry...

Interesting how I've circled back to keeping things simple with a solid, single-purpose folder! I LOVE my Blur, but I'm already itching for something new and sexy in an M390 (or equivalent steel). I've been thinking about the Benchmade 710 in M390, but it seems a bit plain to me... Something like a Microtech Whaleshark is plenty sexy, but that's way out of my pricerange.

How do you like the Crucial? It looks like it has the essentials, but what kind of blade steel does it have, and where is it made?

Good tool, but after a while the bulk and weight (compared to the leaner, meaner Skeletool for instance) turned me off.

I like the Skeletool. the version with the 154CM plain edge blade...

I keep my Farmer in a bag in my car. It'll come out when I'm heading outdoors, or carrying the BK16.

This is my EDC:
Para2.jpg

It's the Para2.
Great steel (I got the M390.)
Great Ergos - fits like a glove, useful in many positions. Like a Becker.
Great Carry. Under 4 oz, and carries smaller than it looks.
Fantastic slicer.
Tough as I need day-to-day.
Great Lock. Compression lock is tough, but a cinch to use. And no need to pass a finger in front of the blade to close.
Easy open - smooth, smooth action with the spydie hole, or by simply releasing the lock.

I've got a lot of great stuff, and I won't get rid of any of it. Love my Farmer, 0551, 940, Sage1, Manix2's, and Case slippies. Some are smaller. Some are tougher. Some are as smooth. Some are prettier. Some may even have comparable locks.
Few can match the ergonomics for my hand, and none has all these attributes in one to the extent that the Para2 does. (Frankly, The 940 comes close, but it's the smallest bit small.) Sal and Eric hit this one out of the park.
I've carried it about 6 days a week all year (have to give some others a chance, just to be fair,) and even as my collection grows, I don't see that changing for the forseeable future.

I've got a page for the Cara Cara2 from Byrd (Same company as Spyderco, right?) open, along with the Tenacious and Rat 1... Damn I wish the black coated Tenacious wasn't another $20 over the normal!

The Cara Cara2 and the Tenacious look really good. The Rat 1 is starting to sing. Gonna go look up Daizees folders now.

Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air. New, M390, Sexy is in the eye of the beholder.

Kinda small for me, but not plain; pricey, but not stratospheric.
As you can see, I love me some Spyderco M390.

Nevermind. Got my supersteel lines crossed. This little guy is in CPM M4, not B-U M390. Not that there's anything wrong with that - just not what you asked for.

Give this a watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p39s9e7vBiw It's what made me pull the trigger on my Rat 1. If this $30 dollar folder can take being carried there, that's good enough for me.

I change mine up depending what I am planning on doing that day:

BM 556 Mini Grip - For days I don't know whats coming (good performer that is easily replaced if something happens to it)
SOG Trident Tanto - Hard use days, for anything I think might abuse my knife (I won the knife and therefore have no investment in it)
Spyderco Delica 4 ZDP-189 FFG - Heavy slicing days (cardboard, packing and unpacking, etc.)
BM 470 Emissary - my "Gentlemen's folder" for classy looks and great functionality (I would use this everyday if I didn't like it so much)
Kershaw Leek Composite blade - If i feel like mixing it up

As you can tell I like 3" for my EDC. Many more of all sizes to come though.

I carried a Case med stockman 8 dot 6318,or a Buck 307 large stockman for many years. In 2002 i bought a Old Timer 8OT stockman and it was used til 2008.I got a Caly 3 in 2008 and it is always clipped in my right front pocket.A case peanut with yellow scales and CV blades keeps it company because I like to whittle on a stick and a flat handled knife with a clip excells a most tasks, but whittling ain't one of them.

dont forget the resilience if you want a bigger blade

For edc, I carry my Benchmade 950 Rift and I couldn't be happier. My other edcs that I rotate out are my Delica 4 and my CRKT m21 (my beater knife)

CRKT Hissatsu Folder and Cold Steel Super Edge. Why? I like the Hissatsu because I trust CRKT's auto lock, which I like because this is my defensive knife. I like the Super Edge because it's one of those knives that I can carry anywhere, especially when it's on my keychain.

I have a ton of knives but two folders seem to always make it into my pocket.

The first is a Case Sway Back Jack in 1095 CV steel (knife on the bottom)

And a Chris Reeve Small Insingo

These two just seem to do everything I need and kick every other knife out of my pocket.

I carry a butterfly ... yes I'm a kinder and gentle type person ..
it's lite and fast :-)

carbon fiber and titanium only complaint is it's blue and not red .
