My experience at Blade show

My own experience was fantastic. Met some of the guys from here who I've been friends with for a long time, got to meet Ernie Emerson for the first time, and even got to finally shake hands with my friend Eugene at Olamic. I met many other makers briefly, and yes, I even said hello to Lynn Thompson. All in all, I couldn't have had a better time. The only regret I have is that there were apparently a ton of contestants from Forged in Fire, and Alone (two shows I watch religiously) and I didn't see any of them. That was on me, though, since we were only there Saturday, and I had a full mapped out plan of who and what I was there to see. I'll definitely keep a better eye out next year for sure.

I almost thought about posing a thread of a blade forums meet up for lunch. But soon realized that wouldn’t work out. I saw carleigh Fairchild and Ryu, both where pretty cool.

Yes SOG was there. The baton multi tools are awesome.
10 years ago, I couldn't hardly wait to visit their booth and then they copied the Spydie hole and I left SOG for the most part. I think I bought an Access Card 2.0 after that, but not much else. To this day, I still like and use the Access Card 2.0 with the sheepsfoot blade. It's for little things that need cutting around my desk mostly and I might take it on a hike as a back up blade if I think of it as it is very thin and flat.

I met up with @shinyedges i met big chris and talked steel for a while. Awesome guy.
I met up with chuck richards, and brad from PHT.
I also met Dan keffler and talked to him, awesome guy. Talked about 3V and zwear and even nitro-V.

Had an absolute awesome time.

The ballgames really messed with parking though. Other than that i had a blast. 12/10
Im running on 3 hours sleep but i would do it again in a blink.

Yes we didn’t get much sleep either. I actually posted a thread about chuck Richards knives. Give it a read! When we left it nearly took a hour to get to the hotel that was two miles away due to the baseball game.

The biggest problem with the Spyderco booth placement is everyone trying to cram in and see the prototypes & pre-production models. I usually swing by there 1st thing and if it is packed I move on elsewhere. I also find it funny when my wife goes to get groceries and comes back with them all in the red Spyderco bags I've gotten over the years :)

LMAO!!!

Lynn Thompson looked frail and not in good health. I know he takes a lot of flack here and much is well deserved but seeing an old frail man in person wasn't good. I shook his hand and wished him well.

Looks can be deceiving. He hosted a cutlas/ bowie training seminar. Directly afterwards took a walk around with me, Andrew Demko and my gf. He was showing us his 1911 grip cane that will come out soon. We talked about how I grew up on cold steel, my dad is a cold steel fanatic, and that my first knife was a cold steel gun site 2. My girlfriend was taken back with how nice he was, she insisted that she get a knife from cold steel. She is now a proud owner of medium Lazon.

True. My bud and I bought a couple knives, and we shook his hand and thanked him. I did ask if he would consider bringing the Mini Tuff Lite back to market. Tired of their scarcity on the secondhand market.

YES!! That would be excellent. Almost bought one on eBay the other day for $40.

The smaller room was packed full of some great vendors (apparently those new to the show get placed there, returning ones get first pick of places, or so a vendor there told me).

Met a couple making some great sheaths there, after walking the show and picking up a knife I had to go back to them, loved the workmanship.

Was great to catch up with some bushcraft folk before I moved out of the state the day after the show though.

Anyone who is a maybe on going next year, make the trip, will be flying back from Texas next year just for it.

We had somewhat similar issues with every Uber driver we had. It seemed like every one, it was their first day on the job, so we took all these roundabout ways, so that the trips were longer than they should have been. Not great.
