Thanks to everyone for the advice, especially Dag-Nabit a.k.a. Kevin, and Zyhano.

Impressions:

-Lighter than I expected
-Thermorun handle less rubbery than I expected, it's basically just a hard plastic (or feels like it)
-Sharper than I expected (sharpest knife I've got new so far, even sharper than my Izula)
-Handle is thinner than I expected

I can see what everyone means about the knife having a little back and forth contact with the zytel sheath, since it dangles inside.

Does anyone know if that really dulls the knife? Or is that just an OCD thing?

It was a really tough decision to get the leather, or the zytel. I opted to save 10 bucks...hopefully that wasn't a mistake.

This knife looks convex ground to me. I cannot see a microbevel...am I blind?

Concern: My only real concern is that the knife handle feels a bit thinnish/tiny in my hands. Since there is no real finger guard, I am I bit worried that my hand could slip on to the blade...

Cheers,

Yes, There is a very small micro-bevel on the edge, It blends in nice if you wanna keep it convexed to the edge. If not, putting a V grind on it works well too.

I'v used my F1 lot and I'v never been worried about slipping on to the blade, just be mindful that there is very little guard.

Can't speak for the Zytle sheath- as I have leather, but I hope you enjoy your new knife!

as always, just pay attention when handling knives, you'll be oke.
The dangling will not dull the knife, for me, it doesn't rattle against the sheath on the edge site. The convex grind really fits the knife and makes it cutting abilities excellent!

enjoy the heck out of it

To me, it was thinner than I expected aswell. But the handle was more rubberish than what I expected. :p There is very very very minor microbevel there, or atleast it seems to me. Put it in sharp light and turn it, you should see littlebit of shine on the edge.

Zytel is better if you think you'll be in wet conditions a lot. Otherwise I'd prefer the leather sheath.

Oh man your screwed now.;)You have caught "Fallknivenism"I caught it when I got my F1 years and years ago.2S1's and 2A1's later I'm ok now......I think.......

Freq,

Good to hear you finally got your F1 and that your initial impression is mostly favorable.

The sheath is kind of a 50/50 thing. Functionally, as far as holding the knife in place, both will work well. As mentioned the Zytel has an advantage in wet conditions by allowing the blade to air a bit. The leather (IMO) is a bit more stylish.

But the bottom line is, they are both very much functional.

(and now you have $10 toward that Bravo 1 you've been eyeing up :D)

I was surprised about the grip myself. While not much thicker than the RC4 it fits into the hand better.

The thermorun is harder than kraton like CS uses, and provides a very good grip.

The blade movement in the zytel sheath had slightly dulled my knife before I recieved it. But it toughed upquickly with the DC4. Personaly I would prefer the leather sheath.

The A2 is my favorite. Same indestructible design as the A1 but a longer blade than can actually chop.

So yeah, we'll see about keeping this one. It definitely isn't sexy like a Bark River, and IMO even lacks the appeal of the ESSE knives. It feels a lot like Ikea furniture to me (the expensive Ikea stuff), well built, scandinavian, just purposeful. This is going to sound dumb, but it actually to me seems very similar to mora. A nice knife, but one I am not afraid to abuse or get all OCD about.

Any assembly required? :p

Exactly. Functional not flashy.

Go ahead and abuse the beejeezus out of it. It's just going to look you in the eye and ask for more. :p

BTW. I got a good chuckle out of your Ikea anology. I never thought of it that way before. :D

Oh no! Something just happened...I was holding the knife to check the grip again...and the light glinted off the blade...

And suddenly the whole non sexy practicality of it all, turned into an appreciation for the beautiful simplicity of it all.

Oh crap. :(

I recently got my first Fallkniven(also an F1), and I have to say it's hard not to be a Fallkniven fan when you own an f1.

So now the question is...if I already have my fallkniven, and my swiss army in my pack...do I really need to leave my Izula in there? Probably should just take it out...

So now I've got two benchmade griptilians (one mini), an Izula, all brand new and never used, warming the bench. I hate to take such a fine knife out of my pack, especially considering how light it is...but really, with the F1, what do I need the Izula for, other than for carrying cordage?
