My Father...

Thanks everyone..

The first surgery was a success, although
it was a all-dayer. They did a procedure
to help one of the aneurysms, & put 2 stents
in his leg. The aneurysms are located in the groin area,
& the surgeon said that they were the size of tennis
balls. Now we have to wait 6 weeks for the same
procedure to the other aneurysm, then 6 weeks later
put a stent in.

If they did that well on the first one, he'll be in better shape for the rest.I hope he continues to thrive! :)

Thought you might like a little background on Dad,
He is a pretty intriguing fellow..

He grew up in Middlesboro, KY, I hear that it was
like the wild west back then. His Dad was killed when
He was 12, so Dad had to step up & become the man
of the house. Dad became an outdoorsman, hunting
& fishing to help put food on the table. Then WWll
came around & Dad joined the Navy. He was a gunner's
mate in the armed guard aboard a liberty ship. They were
known as torpedo magnets, 12 knots was top speed.
He sailed all over the world, but most of his time was
in the south pacific. They delivered beer all over the
Solomons to the troops. I asked him one time, what
was one thing that you most regretted doing while in
Navy. He said, while anchored off of one island, this
native would come out to their ship in a dugout canoe.
The guy would yell at them all night, wanting stuff.
Dad went & got a rifle & put a couple of rounds through
the guy's boat trying to sink him. No more yelling after
that, he said, but now wishes that he had never done
that. After the Navy, Dad was into baseball, He pitched
minor league ball for the Milwaukee Braves. In one game
he was hit in the knee by a line drive, & that was the
end of his baseball career. He then got into the car
business, & moved up quickly. One day a pretty lady
came into the dealership looking for a job. Dad said
hire her on the spot. She became his wife, my mother.
They were great parents, they started me into sports
at an early age. Dad always had time to take me fishing
& hunting. Mom developed breast cancer, then rheumatoid
arthritis, & became diabetic. Dad took care of her the
best he could, & she past 3 years ago. Now its just me
& Dad. I do have a Sister, but she likes drugs & alcohol
it seems more than her family.

I just thought I'd share a little about my Dad...

Thanks for sharing, Jeff - and it's good to hear the first surgery went well. I'm guessing they were aortic or femoral aneurysms? If so, that's some gnarly stuff, man. I'll keep on praying on this end - keep us posted. :)

Great! I hope everythings continues on this path!
Sounds like your father is a really nice man and he raised his son well!
Keep us informed and we will keep praying!

I hate to say this, dude, but that last part is a sad story. Family means everything and it's a shame that your sister can't see that. No matter what anyone has to go through with their family, it's worth it. Keep the faith, bro. best wishes to your dad... and to you!

Gald to hear your dad made it through the first round. Keep the faith brother. I am pulling for you and your dad.
