My favorite traditional fixed blade

It's hard to choose a favorite traditional fixed. I would normally say either my Schrade Sharpfinger or Deerslayer but recently it has been this ebony handled JK.

Great lookin' knives guys.
I have so many it's hard to pick one favorite. This one Burt Foster made for me is right at the top of the pile though.

That has to be one of the nicest burls I've seen!
Fantastic knife!

Lambertiana, not trying to beat a dead horse, but Ray has to start making fixed blades again. His frame and linerlocks look great, but I still kick myself for getting rid of the Kephart I got from him. I just traded a large bowie type blade of his, it is a sickness. I still have one of his bushcraft models I traded into, heavily patina'd from the previous owner. I also traded into one of his folding Nessmuk slipjoints.

Tell him we asked for fixed blades and slipjoints!

I'm going to contact that knife shop and see if he still has the Laconico Kephart I traded to him.

I'll pass that on to him. I was going to email him about something tonight anyway.

Gary, your Personal is what inspired me to get on Burt's list. I had a Blue Collar Hunter and a small Darkside, but a custom was calling my name. I liked the Darkside, but wanted something a little different.

While I may be all over the map when it comes to slipjoints, most of my fixed blade collection is made up of Kepharts. Two of my favorite patterns are the Kephart and Hudson Bay camp knife. Several years ago, I went a little off ordering Kepharts from many different makers. Scott Gossman, J Neilson, Ray Laconico, Matt Liesnewski, John Kiedasch and a few others, including the first Kephart series from Bark River and Ontario. I know I traded into many more. I have a Hudson Bay Chief camp knife made by the late Terry Baublitz, in addition to a Condor Hudson Bay. I had examples of this great pattern from Bark River and Mike Mann. Scott Gossman is making a small Kephart and a Hudson Bay camp knife for me this year, and Matt Liesnewski is making a Kephart for me later this year.

Let's see your favorite fixed blade patterns. Rifleman's knives to the Nessmuk, Kepharts and Marbles patterns. Trade daggers, what have you. We have a lot of great pics and examples in the fixed blade thread, but I want to see JUST your favorite patterns.

Loveless drop-point skinners. Also love the leaf shape of a Randall 25 as well as the Pathfinder pattern.

It's a great idea for a thread.

;)

(January 2013 = still current, and with the many great pictures already posted, worthy of continuation.)

I like old Westerns and Clip points. Probably my favorites are the Western L36 Bowie and Western L46-6 Shark Knife.

The Aluminum, carbon steel [on the shark knife] or brass Guards and Pommel's really does it for me. Some of my western hunters have the same blade shapes as my Old Hickory knives, but I like using the hunters more. The ornate and more comfy handles are a big reason for this. :)

The Chute pattern is my absolute favorite knife pattern, inspired by Harry Archer, designed and made famous by Bob Loveless.

I like mine straight, curved, narrow, and broad-bladed. This old Kabar is a pretty good compromise. It's my idea of what a belt/hunting knife looks like, though it's a pattern I don't see much anymore. (Maybe I should get out more.)
pictured with a similarly-shaped Camillus Mark I Navy that I had to file the pommel down on to liberate my grip.

Ok Kris, If that is yours, I am officially jealous! That is also one of my favorites. I have a few close to that design (not Loveless!) but not a true chute knife.
