Got out today and got a nice batch of wild leeks. I love them, Raw , fried, and also I make a good dip . They are just right now here in my area. Few more weeks and they get bigger and arent as good. Stinks up my Jeep and my apartment, but worth it.

Be careful where you take a leek.

Cleaned and ready, Got some venison steaks thawing, tommorrow will fry them up with some leeks. probably leeks and eggs for breakfast too.

Wow, It seems a little early, but I guess not - I better get in the woods :D

A buddy of mine cleans them and trims the tops and puts them in water keeping them in the fridge to prolong the goodness.

Enjoy

Hmm I can't say I've ever eaten a leek. They look like they'd be good basted with some olive oil and garlic and then grilled. But then again, I like pretty much anything after it's been doused with olive oil, garlic and a good grilling. :D

Not ready here in Western NY, Maybe this weekend.
fried leeks and potatoes in bacon grease. I can hear my arteries hardening

Small game cavities stuffed with wild onions of any kind and cooked over open fire is good eatin'. 8-)

Hmmm, I have always heard of such, but have never seen them. Are they strictly a deep woods critter? Do you eat the green tops too?

Maybe a little olive oil, but since they are part of the onion/garlic family I guarantee you will not need any garlic. These will stay with you long after you eat them, and you will know who your true friends are the next day after eating them:D

These are my favorite wild edible. Not filling, but they sure spruce a salad up nicely! Good for seasoning fish with when you aren't blessed with the convenience of lemon, too. ;)

Ooo, What is that?!! I ate those things by the buckets when I was a kid. The leaves and the little buds, really tart.

They look delish.
Any advice on where and how to find wild leeks?

I find them mostly among the hardwoods, When you find some dont dig them all, leave some to go to seed so they will grow more each year. Also keep your eyes peeled for morel mushrooms. By June the leeks go to seed and are not very good to eat. If you find a good crop of leeks or morels,, be very carefull who you let in on it. I wont even tell my mother where I go.

Thats really neato!! Can you transplant them so they grow every year in your yard?
