Hi everyone, I just turned 15 and got birthday money along with the money I've saved, I wan't to know what a really good folder is for around $300 (I do have parents permission), I have been looking at several Microtechs, and maybe the small Sebenza, but would like other suggestions! Thanks!

Just going to throw this out there. And in no way is it an attempt to turn you away from current plans :D. Zero Tolerance makes very nice folders. The 0550 can be had for $200 dollars, and the 0560 for $260 or so.The 0550 is a great knife and I loved mine. If you did that route, you would still have another $100 for say, a Paramilitary 2 by Spyderco. Just food for though. Take your time.

ETA: May want to give some size ideas for others who may hop in and give suggestions. Blade length, weight, ect.. Good luck.

Thanks! But yeah I am looking for towards a single more expensive folder, but as for size and blade length, weight, I don't really care about, but but as for blade length I don't want anything smaller than 3.5"

If you don't know EXACTLY what you want you shouldn't be dropping that kind of money on a knife. Definitely try to handle as many of the knives you're interested in before purchasing. It would be a shame to spend $300 on a knife you don't end up liking.

Depending upon what your collection looks like now I would recommend you get 2 or 3 high quality knives in different styles to figure out what features really do it for you before you start spending the big bucks. A benchmade 730 Ares in m390 and a spyderco paramilitary 2 would would get you two spectacular knives in distinctly different styles.

If you are dead set on picking up a high end blade however, I'm not going to try to stop you. The small sebenza is excellent, but I've recently had my eye on the a.g. russell acies 2. It features similar design philosophy to the small sebenza but is a bit more stylish in my opinion and uses zdp-189 blade steel which would be a substantial step up from the s35vn used in the sebenza.

Hmm that a.g. Russel is a cool blade, but yes, I am pretty serious on this purchase, I am however open to any blade people suggest to me! Thanks or the input!

Happy Birthday! I would personally suggest my favorite knife; the Benchmade 940 Osborne.

... but it's cutting it pretty close to your 3.5" minimum. Are you buying online or in store? If in store, handle as many knives as they'll let you, even those you don't think you like right away. I've actually found a $300 knife I really, really want because of doing this, the Spyderco Phoenix. It looks cool but not mind-blowingly cool. However in hand it feels absolutely amazing to me.

I suggest looking at the Zero Tolerance knives as Steel130 said, as well as Benchmade and Spyderco. You can't go wrong with many knives at that price range though, it really comes down to your personal tastes. Speaking of, what are you looking for in particular, as far as the type of knife you're looking for?

Well I was looking at the Microtech Whaleshark and kinda have my mind set up on that, but not many people mention it which leads me to believe not many people like it, I'm not really a fan of the Socoms, and the select fire, but that whaleshark looks sick!, and I am buying online :)

I also suggest the Zero Tolerance 560. It just happens to cost $260 but it's built like much more expensive knives.

Extrema Ratio MF1....you can find them for around 3 bills.

If I had 300 bucks to just blow on a "cool" knife then that would be it.

:barf:

I do like the Microtech Whaleshark. If you're dead set on popping exactly $300 on one knife, then I say go for it. I've handled one, it's definitely high quality and the price is right considering the brand. The satin finish S35VN model is on my list.

The Whale Shark looks very nice, actually... good choice, if you're looking for something different. Very large belly. Also, don't worry so much about what other people THINK. Read or watch actual reviews of people who've used the knife, listen to facts. I've heard bad things about knives that turned out to be non-issues for me, like the Kershaw Leek's tip being too delicate.

I think I will pull the trigger (or actuate the flipper in this case :D ) I will update my thoughts on the knife when it comes in, but I definitely have to get a ZT 0560, that blade is sweet too! Thanks everyone for the input!

I am not a folder guy, but I just bought a ZT 0560. it is very nice.

^ Haha. I wont buy either MT or ER.
I want to know what else you EDC because there are plenty of awesome knives available for well under $300
Most spyderco and benchmade products around $150 are going to make an impression.
But...if you have to burn $300, I'd snag a ZT 560, or a Spyderco Military CF/M390 and then pick up a fine/extra fine DMT stone. Such great knives.
