My First Attempt at a Bushcraft Sheath for my Aurora.

I can't believe that's your first sheath, that looks great:thumbup: I have a link to a firesteel loop tutorial by Sharpshooter when you are ready to tackle it:)

Iuke12 - I would LOVE that link when you are ready to send it:

EDIT: I think found that link - It is on that other board: Link

Doc - Thanks man - I don't care what everyone says - you are all right! ;)

Now to get those tubes or rivets installed - I have not decided yet.

holy smokes thats nice.. especially for a first.

My first sheath was cardboard folded and taped with duct tape. ha!

Well, I read the thread title and parsed your top picture before I read what you wrote. In that space I forced the assumption “he's aiming to replicate one of these”. How good is that? The one I prematurely believed you aspired to model yours on is in fact the one you made. Approved!

That you're going to add the rivets, even better. Yum yum.

I got all my stuff at Tandy - I had no problems with it:

1) Adjustable Stitch Gouge.
2) Non Adjustable Stitch Gouge.
3) #4 Waxed thread.
4) A Diamond Awl.
5) Ox Blood Dye.
6) A one inch D-Ring
7) Some Leather Glue (contact cement).
8) A Chicago Screw.
9) A Overstitcher Kit (I used the smallest wheel - a #4 kit - if I were to do it again - I would use a #5).
10) A bone Folder
11) Some finishing liquid.
12) Neats foot.
13) Two books - The art of making leather cases AND the Art of leather stitching - both by Al Stohlman.
14) Some rivets or tubes and the tools to set them.
15) A sharp knife to cut the leather (or shears or a wheel).
16) Some 0 sized Needles.
17) A #2 or #3 Edging tool.
18) (A french Edge tool and a regular edging tool would be good).

All of this and some leather should do you. I spent about 150 dollars on the whole mess - but could make about 7 of these with the leather - and the tools are lifetime things.

Thanks very much for taking the time to list all your tools! I'm filing that post for future reference.

Your first sheath will be an inspiration to me and others, I'm sure.

Stay sharp,

That's a very nice sheath mate, clean lines with tight stitching. You could be selling ones like that no problems.

That's the one. Have fun:)

You know what that sheath is? It's THE best excuse ever to grind your own knife. You know I think your Aurora is a very nice knife, but dude, put the same love and determination into a blade that you did your sheath, and you will rival it on your first attempt. You know where to find a brand new KMG with ALL the trimmings. Hell, I'll even have a key made for you so you can use the shop if I am away.

Techna,

I will be over very soon to make a mess of your shop - and my offer to make your first knives sheath stands always! Thanks for the love man,

TF

Master,

If you look above - That is the entire list - I would say - with the leather - it cost about 150 dollars - and I could have made perhaps 1/2 dozen of these with the leather I bought - and the tools are lifetime things if you keep them sharp. Not bad.

Ofcourse - if time is money - this sheath cost me about 200 dollars! ;)
