My first attempt at a sword

Possum, Thanks for the picture and link. I would have liked to go longer with this blade but I'm limited to what I can fit into my oven. This blade is the max or should I say was the max since I snapped the point off. Its just barely over 18" now. I've got the blade about halfway rubbed out now. That's a lot of blade to hand rub. I also got the false edge ground and a new point. Hopefully I'm not to burnt out after I finish the hand rubbing tomorrow so I can start on the guard. Got some ideas I want to try for that.

You know, Ray, I've always loved how you shape your blades. The added length just makes it so much more purdy!!!!

Ray, I have just the cure for you, I'll send it along. That is one beautiful blade and I'm looking forward to how you finish off the handle. Keep posting these pics man, it's what I look forward to every day. :D

Wow Ray, that is looking incredible :thumbup: :thumbup:

Can't wait to see what your ideas are for the guard/handle...

The old back has been slowing me down. I think its on the mend for a day or so and its back to being a pain. I've got the pieces made up now so if I feel up to it I hope to get things further along today. My light box seems a bit small with this thing in it. I just ran it through another temper cycle. I'm kinda liking the blade with the purple tint.

Wow, Ray, she really turned out great! Love the handle / butt plate.

YES!

I've been day dreaming about this one for days now, thanks for the progress pics Ray.

What about the dye for the handle? And the fittings? Please tell us that you are going to antique them :D

And dark dark brown for the maple, or do you prefer red-brown?

Nice work brother :thumbup:

Eli, I was thinking about mirror polishing the fittings. :D I just got the handle sanded down. It will get the Clairol treatment and I'm sure it will be dark. I'm feeling like I'm stuck in neutral today but at least I'm not in reverse.

Mirror Polish --- :eek:

LOL, you're the man with the great "eye," it'll be great, that's for sure :thumbup:

I haven't followed this thread:eek::confused:
Thanks for the reminder, Ray:thumbup::cool:
Love yer butter knife.

That's just a monster Ray! Beautiful. Thanks for the update. I hope your back mends quickly and you get some peace.

Here's a look at Maximum, The Long Range Butter Knife. I don't think it looks much like a sword either. I'm calling it a day. The fittings have been mirror polished and I got a coat of dye on the handle. If I don't get stuck in reverse tomorrow it should be close to done.

Wow, now that is a gorgeous transition from the last one! Love the fittings and color on the handle.

Man that's awesome! I like the guard and buttcap, and the color of the handle, a lot. You're sure making fine progress for a complainin' old man! :D

Looking great Ray, maybe if you get the urge to try one again a d guard in wrought would be awesome.

My plan for today was to get it epoxied but after hand rubbing for the second time I need to take a break. The up side on this blade still needs some more work but other than doing that and removing the ring nut its basically done.
