my first attempt at homemade micarta

looks the same myke. and, it is hard all the way through. it set up nice.

and yes, i had some scrap 1 x 6 (ish) wood that i cut down. i use multiple spring clamps and 2 C-clamps to press.
Cool beans, now the question is what knife is it going on.Since it's so thin you can put it over some thicker liners & it would still look great IMO.

Gotcha,I like the skinny handle on the LRK too.Got one fat & one skinny. The skinny would be better for piggybackin' too.

Is it better to die the fabric before the process or after?

While, i don't truly "know" the answer, logic would tell me that you would have to do it before. After, it is sealed in the resin.

I got this burlap for maybe $3.00/yd at the fabric store. i only bought one yard and it looks like that should make me 3 sets of scales.

they had other colors, but i am sure the RIT dye would work, if you wanted to use it. i chose a light color, because i knew the resin would darken it up. so, keep that in mind as you are thinking about colors.

i got a new batch going today at lunch. someone asked about my setup, so snapped a quick pic.
