My First Becker: the BK4 Machax, What's Yours?

My first was a 2, which I foolishly sold eventually. Then, after realizing the folly of my ways, I got an 11 and a 10 and a 14 and now, two 2s enough 5s to last me my lifetime plus, a 15 or three, a user 16 and a saber ground 16; then there's the 4s, oh, and a 3 and - oh man, I better go check my knife closet and stop typing before something thinks I have a problem.:rolleyes::cool:;):D

Pretty sure you won't find anyone here who thinks you have a problem....

2nd and 3rd. I have the BK4 from the op. Went to an Old Crow Medicine Show concert last night, had a few, gave me that final push to buy them. They've been in my cart for a while now.

ahh, drunken knife buying. My favorite ;)

Funny that I have posted in here multiple times, and didn't notice that, lol.

The 15 will feel a bit different than the other Beckers. Considering you are a bit accustomed to swinging a 4, you have one thing going for you already that they both have in common; though a lot are dismayed by the 4s size and large steak knife feel of the 15, they both hit above their weight class and surprise most of the people that give them a fair shake.

I have been thinking of 4/15/24 piggyback sheath system for a bit now. I love the 3 of them, and given the average usage of knives I have encountered while camping (for anything under a 2 week trip), that combo would be plenty.

My only suggestion would be to see Exactly what is too large for the 15 and too small for the 4. You will be quite surprised what they are both capable of when pushed.

I came across the bk4 today in an army surplus shop and was shocked by it's actual size. I've read it's smaller than it seems in pix but Damn lol... I actually really liked it thou and plan on getting it while there discounted and before there gone. That shop didn't get the discount memo and wanted $165 for it

i started back in the very early eighties with a probably hand finished Blackjack Chromed BK4 and i still have it.

next one was a parkerized jobber. that's my EDC still.

I'd love to see that 4!

Wow! That chrome one looks awesome. I never knew there were so many variations.

BK-1, it made me feel safer in the far north without a firearm. Bears, and there was a pack ejected wolf prowling the edge of the community at night. It made the local dogs go nuts in the evening. I used to hike miles in different directions by myself to go fishing. Eventually I got tired of the knifes weight with a canteen on a belt. Kind of a cool knife that could hack spruce bows off like a hatchet for shelter building. I even used it to chop the wings off game birds.

Upnorth, Have you thought about trying a 4? I haven't used my newly received 4, but it's light as a feather. I'm really thinking this is an ideal woods tool. They can be had at a great price right now since being discontinued. I believe one of the regular posters here (Doc something?) is in Canada and uses an old 4 almost exclusively.

ETA: Feeling a bit dumb, the poster to which I'm referring is DOC-CANADA:D

You really can't go wrong with a Becker...whether it be your first or last knife. BK7 or BK9 are great choices; however, my first Becker was a Brute.
