im new to the fourm posting thing so i hope you dont mind me posting this here, ive got to have the car moved some time tommarow and i dont know if its worth keeping or not.

im 17 years old and have never had my own car, me and my brother have been shareing a vette (chevette) sence i got my permit. a elderly neighbor asked me to help clean out here garage about a hour ago. she wants a place to park her car in the winter and wanted me to help her get rid of some junk.

there was a bike, some car parts, and a old buick inside. the buick hasent been on the road for 7-8 years (thats when her husband got alshimers) and i could not get it started, it needs a new battery i guess. she wanted to have it hauled away to the junk yard but said i could have what i want out of the garage if i could get it moved.

this got me thinking theres a crx that i really REALLY want down the street for 1500 bucks, i dont know much about old cars but do yall think that i could get 1500 bucks out of this old thing once i get it running? sorry for the bad pics, theres not alot of room in there.

these are just thumbs, click for bigger pics.

I think even if that thing doesn't run, it's worth more than $1500. If it runs, it's possibly worth a lot more.

Go to Autotrader.com and Ebay Motors and you can see what they are going for. I would be curious myself. Do you know what year it is? There should be a registration inside it that will have the year.

you could get 10k for that car very easily the person selling it to you is gifting you if you get that car you better keep it out of respect at least for awhile

is that the correct miles buckley? i looked the car over, shes got a 340-4 motor cranks....

Which raises the very serious moral and ethical question of whether or not it's ok to exploit the naive woman's generosity.

A better approach, IMHO, would be to approach her and say something like, "Madam, I have done a bit of research on your Buick and I believe it might be quite valuable, perhaps $10,000. If you would like, I can arrange the sale of it for you in exchange for a 15% commission." This way, you get your $1500 honestly.

I can't tell from the pics for sure, but it looks pretty mint to me , get some info from somebody that knows cars.. I'm quite sure it's worth WAY more than $1500.. 10 K ?? I dunno, but I'd sure find out before I made any moves that I'd regret.

How you answer this question is more important than getting either car.

Gollnicks right Dbuck, and if this post is real and not bs (no offense bro, it is a somewhat collectible car, if it is real, you lucked out), I would at least go 50/50 with her. She might not have any idea what it is worth, and just wants it gone. Whatever the case may be, even though she did offer it to you for free, I think it would be best to go halves with her. I would definitely check out Autotrader.com and Kelly Blue Book.

As much as I like small cars, that Buick would be a great car for someone your age to drive and keep running. It would outlast several Hondas as well as the whole performance drivability issue.

I've been on both sides of situations like that. Once I was moving and I decided I didn't want to keep a piece of antique furniture that I didn't know the value of. I knew it might be worth a lot of money, but with all the stress of moving I really didn't want to deal with trying to find out. There's a used furniture dealer in town but I don't trust him; I knew he'd only give me a few bucks for it whether it was worth more or not. I could have tried to find somebody else to ask, but I was in the middle of moving -- and the movers were really nice guys who were busting their butts to help me out -- of course they were getting paid, but they were really working hard.... I told them they could have it and told them I didn't know what it was worth but I hoped they could get some real money for it. I wanted to make that clear so they wouldn't feel guilty if it turned out to be worth a lot. I don't think they knew what it was worth either, but they often get given things like that; they know where to sell them. I never saw them again so I still don't know how much they sold it for. Probably not much, but who knows.... I hope they got a lot for it.

I think if you tell that woman you think the car might be worth money she'll insist she just wants it out of her garage, just take it away and sell it for whatever you can get and welcome to it. She knows it might be worth something, everybody knows some old cars are valuable, but she doesn't want to deal with the hassle of selling it -- that's a conscious choice.

is that a 67 wildcat? it's worth a ton more than a crx. Let the lady know. If she wants to sell it and keep the money, she should. If she wants to give it to you, bully for you. One huge piece of advice; do not try to start it unless you know what you are doing, which I gather you dont. a car that has been parked for 7 years needs a little work and prep work before you try to start it, unless you want to total the motor.

edited. it looks like a skylark.

i turned the car down, guess ill find another way to get the 1500 lol
I'll leave you to your own choices, but that was *not* the one I would have made. With correct mileage and the body/interior as sound looking as the photos show.........worth alot. Wish I knew the location of that rig as it would be in my garage just as fast as I could sign the papers and tow it home. The 340 I *thought* only came in 2 barrel trim, with approx 220hp @ the crank. The 400 had a 4 barrel and was good for approx 345hp IIRC. Even though it is a 4 door, that car has alot of collector apeal and would make for a very comfy cruiser. Much better car than the tin can CRX's. Tell ya what, I'll buy you a CRX in exchange for that car.;)

bad news...................she braught over some food today for the faimly and i asked her if she still had the old car. she said no but she was happy because it was gone. after talking for a few mins she said that she had it filled the insides with all those old car parts in the garage and had it and a washer towed down to the scrap metal company and sold it for its weight in scrap metal.

i called the company to see if i could get the car back but the said that there under contract and cant sell to any body but the companys they supply raw metal to. they said what comes in gets crushed no matter what it is.

it did not even phase her a bit, im alittle upset because i did not take it because i did not want to take advantage of her even though it was tempting and she just went and threw it away.
