my first car

Elderly woman, husband in ill health...a small fortune being lost wouldn't phase me either. I'd much rather have my loved ones in good health than receive $1,000,000.

Interior looks mint though, would have definetly gone 50/50 and tried to find a more up to date daily driver. Speaking purely from my opinion, I wouldn't have made it a daily driver. Especially if it really was worth $10K. First car should be a BEATER, not a mint condition collectible Buick. I'd rather drive around my old Altima.

what is that old bike?i think it was called a kawasi or something like that it had 11k miles on it but i cant ride a bike so i over looked it. it left with the car, was it worth any thing?

EDIT*** im uploading the other pictures off my computer now, the bike was a kawasaki kz1000. was that worth any thing to?

it had 11k miles and was last on the road in 83. RIP any one know much about these old bikes, i cant find much online.

kz1000? Old police bikes used to have the same engine. Infact, I thik they used to use the entire bike and just modify it. I read it's a very drag racable bike for it's time, loads of torque. Late 70's bike.

Ok, I'm not buying this one. The prospects of both the car and the bike are TOO good. With a join date of Dec 2006, I think this is an old member pulling our leg. First clue this is impossible? Their isn't a live, running Chevette anywhere in the country!! ;)

If not, this is just too tragic...

Was thinking the same thing.

Umm, I thought this when I heard about the bike also.

i was just curious about these things, i dont have alot of automotive back ground and i know nothing about bikes.

i dont mean to cause any problems. the mods can delete this thread if they would like.

we're just laughing because if you're for real, you're saying ,"some old lady has these shoeboxes full of money to give me, what should I do? her house if full of fantastic collectibles, some near irreplaceable (sp?) . Have you ever heard of gold? is it worth anything?"

If not, it reminds me of the M1 garand post, where someone posing as an idiot teenager ruins a really expensive heirloom firearm due to ignorance. everybody got upset, then it was all, ha ha, I fooled you.

I hope it's the latter.

I don't know about specific older bike models, but unless it's a rare collectible, it would probably cost more to fix up than it's worth ($1000-$1500). It's been sitting since '83? New gaskets and hoses, new tires, new battery, rust in the tank, etc., etc. It can be very difficult to track down parts for an older bike, a hobby in itself, and many bike shops won't work on machines that old.

If you had a shop of your own, the tools, the parts, the knowledge, and the interest/motivation to fix an old motorcycle, maybe you could pull it off for $800. Then you could sell it for $1500 and have a 'profit' of $700. not worth it to me, but some guys really enjoy the challenge.

Sell it?! Pfft...I'd ride it :)

But I doubt I'd have the money. It looks like it needs a windshield and as you said nearly a complete gasket set and alot of TLC for rusted parts. I'm pretty confident I could do the work, but I'd have to take it to a friend's to store it and work on it. I work in a car shop so I know a few people who could help me.

I don't think that model is supposed to have a windshield.

Did they not have bugs in 1983? :p Custom windshield then. I personally don't like to be blown to pieces while riding down the highway.

I've met many older people with similar garages and in similar situations, but stories like this always remind me of the old Indian Chief that was taken apart to rebuild and the husband passes away leaving all the parts in egg cartons and milk crates sold from a garage for $500.

Checking the internet for photos of late-70s kz1000 bikes, it appears that most do not have windshields. And most of those that do are obvious aftermarket jobs. There are a select few, however, that have either been painted to match or really did come with fairings and windshields.

There are three different kz1000 configurations listed at NADA for 1979; perhaps one of those was a fairing/windshield model?

Personally, I have 13,000 miles of riding in three years (I'm a newbie) and have never ridden a motorcycle that had a windshield.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Then I'd feel safe betting my life on the fact that you wear a full face helmet right? :)

I don't have much riding experience, not even got a license yet. But I'd love to get some experience with older bikes just to "know my roots" if you will.
