That's right, it's hard to believe I bought my first Case knife after years of collecting. I saw this orange beauty on eBay and had to have it. It's the Tennessee Orange Corelon Stockman. The initial quality of this knife is excellent, but I had one question. The small blades rub together when closed and have already scratched each other. In fact, there were rub marks present when I opened the box, it is a brand new knife too.

Is it typical for the small blades to rub, or is this a quality issue? The blades rub no matter which order you close them too, so I know it's not user error.:D

I have several production Stockman knives and a couple have blades that rub and a few don't... I just stuff in my pocket and head out! Beautiful Knife Though!!!

I'm not an expert by any means, but as a regular on the CASE forum, I see a lot of complaints about blade rub on new knives, no matter which pattern......but I believe it has gotten to be an acceptable characteristic.

I'm wondering if your knife is a re-do, I've never seen that handle before, but again, I'm no expert. In re-doing the handle, they may have caused excessive blade rub. Just my 2 cents.

I have a couple stockmans that have the blade rub issue. They are from different manufacturers. As long as there is no hard contact, no problem for me.
That said, if you send it back to Case, they will make it right.

Welcome to the world of the Case slipjoint. The finish is usually quite good but the fit can be a little bit of a hit or miss. In my experince blade rub is not all that uncommon.

And one other thing about Case - you can bet money that it will come dull as a butter knife from the factory. Haven't seen one in 35 years that was even reasonably sharp out of the box.

I bought a yellow Case Sodbuster last September that would pushcut newspaper out of the box.

This one is barely shaving sharp, it is nowhere near the recent Spyderco's or Benchmade's I have purchased. I will definitely have to re-work the edge.

One thing to to bear in mind on the Corelon handled Case knives...the are not entirely Case. Case is allowing them to be put together by Frost Cutlery who is supplying the Corelon. The box may be marked "Produced by Frost Cutlery Co. under sub-license with W.R.Case & Sons Cutlery Co." Smoky Mountain is listing them as F/Case.

I don't know if the is a way for Case to make profit or what but several people here on the Traditional Forum have received these F/Case knives and have had complaints about fit and finish, grinds, etc. These are not the Case knives made by Case I have bought in the past, I personally will steer clear of the Frost/Case knives until I hear the problems I have mentioned are no longer occurring.

The actual wording on the box says "Genuine Corelon Handle produced by Frost Cutlery Co. under sub-license with W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co."

But this is worrisome indeed if quality has been lacking on these particular knives.

I didn't know they were made by Frost, I just bought a Corelon peanut and the finish is as good as or better than my yellow CV peanut. Only flaw is a tiny gap where the case shield is inlaid.

It seems that the only parts made by Frost are the handles. The rest of the knife is pure Case.

My one an only Case Canoe was sharp, but the blades touched toward the end of the large blade....
