My first Case knife, one question?

And one other thing about Case - you can bet money that it will come dull as a butter knife from the factory. Haven't seen one in 35 years that was even reasonably sharp out of the box.

I've bought 4 new ones in the past year and a half and each one was very sharp out of the box.

I've just put in my pocket today a mint Case 06447 punch that I bought new in 1974. Always wanted to carry it and started today. Every blade rubs on one of the other. Its a quality thing. Case knives are ment to be carried and worked with. They have alway fitted the blades VERY tight in the knife in a effort to make the knife slim. Lots of the older handmade German knives also rubbed. Its not a big deal. If it bugs you carry a single blade lockback or a two bladed trapper. Almost every 3 or 4 blade Case I've seen from the '70 were fitted so tight they rubbed. Won't effect performance at all.

Like I previously stated in another thread I have bought 10 within the last 2 months ans they were all extremely sharp out of the box. All 4 of the stockmans 1 large and 3 mediums rub but it doesn't hit the edge and it doesn't affect performance. My Moose, 3 sodbusters, trapper, and single blade trapper does not rub at all, and all of them CV and SS came super sharp.

4 days now and no response to my email from Case.

I thought this was a reputable company?

I guess I'll forward it to both their Customer Service and Repair Center this time.

I wonder why we don't have a Case forum on this site?

5.56,From your previous posts,I get the idea you're simply adamant about buying American Made products.Which BTW is commendable. Now not to be disrespctful in any way,I'd just like to let you know that EVERY SAK I've ever bought had absolutely NO blade rub.Just throwing it out there.

Don't get me wrong.I love my Cases' & Queens among others, but the SAK's as plain as they may be,the F&F are top notch IMHO.

No worries, I am with you 100%, I own 5 SAK's and every one of them is top notch quality.

I am just surprised that this particular Case knife passed their QC.

No blade rub with the dozen or so CASE knives I have, both CV and Stainless.

These are very recent knives so maybe the quality has improved.

As for sharp, they are excellent, if you want a dull from the factory blade look no further than Queen Cutlery.A shame as they are generally, nicely made knives.

I have seen several stockmans come through my store where the small blades rubbed together I am guessing that it's just a case by case (or something like that) basis.

The response from the Case service dept. has always been great.
I have always had an e-mail from them the next day....
Give them a little more time, they are great people and will no doubt take care of you..

i believe that they (case) werent interested in the idea, and somebody from case would need to be involved in moderating.
Case already has many specific collectors groups official and unofficial, plus they get alot of exposure in the traditional forum here
I LOVE MY YELLER HANDLED KNIVES:D

I got a medium amber bone stockman CV for christmas with blade rub

My Baby butterbean SS I bought 2 years ago also has blade rub

I have to say, that Butterbean was definitely the sharpest knife out of the box I ever bought. It cut me the first time I opened it and it was so clean I didn't feel it. I can count on my 9 remaining fingers the number of times I have been cut by a new knife.

Anyway, it isn't uncommon for blades to rub.

I just picked up a medium stockman at cabelas.
It too has a little blade rub, it's not a big deal just a couple
scratches. I got the knife for $20 off because the case sheild was missing
so either way im happy:)

11 days and no response from Case.

This time I will email customer service and the repair dept. and see what happens.

You've been cut by new knives NINE times?

I also bought one of the case sod busters and it was razor sharp out of the box. I couldn't resist it for the price. $15 I think.
I happened to catch a knife making episode on "how it's made" the other night. Not sure what factory they were at but this company would insert a shim here or there to prevent the blades from rubbing. I thought that was kind of cheezy. You'de think they'de have have it set right from the start.

Blades are not supposed to rub together. The fact they often do may make us used to it, but I still don't think we should expect it. On the Case stockman I carry, the sheepsfoot blade actually closes on top of the spey blade, which continually nicks the edge of the sheepsfoot blade. :grumpy: I still carry the thing though, FWIW.

I have purchase 14 new Case knives over the years. One came in not very sharp. The other 13 came very sharp.
