My first day smoke-free...

Best of luck! I'm on day three of quitting (again!). Hang in there. :grumpy:

I tried quitting smoking in the past multiple times using the patch. All I found it did was make me desire putting on a fresh patch to get that nicotine rush. I ended up smoking while wearing the patch.

My son, who was 4 years old at the time, picked up an unlit cigarette and started looking it over in front of me. That is when it hit me that young ones mimic the behavior of those they look up to, so I took him into the bathroom and had him watch me flush the pack down the toilet. I decided I was going to quit cold turkey.

I talked to my son about how cigarettes are bad for your health and that I needed to stop smoking.

That was November 2, 2006 and I haven't had a cigarette since. For a few weeks out from there, whenever I'd get a craving, I would tell my son that I wanted a cigarette. Having him respond back "no daddy, you'll get sick" was all I needed to hear to keep going.

It has been, I guess 2 1/2 years now since I last smoked. I can't remember the last time I craved a cigarette.

Jordan,

If you have a lot of free time with the weekend coming up, I found getting a lot of rest (meaning sleep) in the early days helped getting through the cravings. That first weekend I slept a lot while my body was flushing the nicotine out of my system.

I know people react differently to nicotine withdrawls, but sleep helped me get through the worst.

EMT LEE how goes the battle. I am on my third day without any. Hopefully you are going strong without them. Doug

I'll quit with you.....how about that. check in with me whenever you want..and I will do the same. I have been looking for an excuse. I dont smoke, but I dip chew...nasty habit that I picked up in the Army. I have quit twice..and got weak..I know that if I quit agian..it will be for good.
So there you go..I will suffer with you...starting right now. I mean it, I just spit out my last dip ( I hope:p)

Where's TonyM..............?

Good luck and congrats on your decision. I bumped up the big "Smoking" thread from a while back for more support.
Still trying here :(

Thanks. I actually do Ok, the first few days. Its usually later, when the cravings are no longer "front and center" that a situation comes along and it sneaks up on me. That, and I kind of forget about my motivation. I'm still at it though!
