My first knife that I actually bought for myself is this Buck 112. It has served me well for many years. Even though I don't get a chance to use a knife very hard anymore I still wear this one once in awhile. It's like a comfortable pair of shoes.

Thank you for the chance to win a great knife!

Not an entry... Thanks for the awesome GA! Very cool. My grandfather gave me a Case "Loom fixer" that's what he
carried a lot back in the day when he was the head fixer at a cotton mill. Great old pattern..imho

My first traditional was either a buck 110 or a swiss army knife my dad gave me when I was young. I whittled everything with that sak, including my fingers. My left pointer finger is still striped with scars from that sak. Later on, I dressed my white tail deer with the buck 110. Good times, thanks for reminding me of them.

Thanks for the opportunity--this is great.

If I remember correctly, my first knife was a slip joint. I think it was a small Schrade lockback with scrimshaw. I might have been 8 years old. Man I loved that knife and carried it with me everywhere, which was, of course, absolutely fine at that time, especially growing up in Montana. I spent all day everyday tromping around the mountains, and a boy always needs a pocket knife when tromping.

I don't know when I lost it, but I remember being upset. There was a steady stream of knives that followed, but I don't remember any of them as well as that little Schrade.

Cheers,
Daniel

Thanks for this opportunity.
I got this when I was 11 after I had earned my "Totin' Chip" as a Tenderfoot scout in 1968. It's an Imperial Scout knife. My father gave it to me. I still carry it in the woods.

My dad gave me my first knife. I was six, I think. Early 50's snyway. It was a single blade metal handled cheapie with a bail and chain so I could hook it on a button of my bib overalls. I can still see this knife in my mind, and I can still remember my mother scraping it on the concrete steps to dull the edge and round the point so I wuldn't hurt myself.

Thanks for the chance to play.

Good luck on your endeavor Bob, and Thanks!

My first knife was given to me when I was 6 or 7. My Uncle gave it to me, and I guess today you would call it a "gas station cheapo. Which made sense as my Uncle owned and ran a gas station back then. It was a single blade, very small knife, and as I kept losing them, he gave me more than one as I recollect.

Bob, thanks for your membership to support the cause, and also your generous giveaway.

My first traditional knife was this scout knife I received back in about 1964-'65 at age 9 or 10. This is a current picture, as it still sits on my basement workbench and gets used at least a couple times a week.

I think it was one of those blue cub scout knives, probably Camillus. There is absolutely no telling what happened to it. Too bad I didn't keep it MIB.

Thanks for the giveaway.

MY first traditionals were an imitation sak and a barlow that I got when I was around 7 or 8. The sak was a birthday present from my uncle and the barlow was a gift from my dad. Unfortunately I've lost track of both of those knives so I don't have any pictures to post but I'm hoping they turn up in some boxes I have in storage. I can't wait to see the terrible edges I put on those from "sharpening" them on the concrete sidewalk.

My first traditional in memory is a sak clone. I think I got it when I was around 10. At the time I thought it was the real deal and was totally in love with the knife. Used it for everything and it has been on countless adventures. Eventually I gifted it back to my mom to use as I had got some other knives later in life and my mom liked to have a knife for hiking. Kind of lost track of the knife and it is likely packed away. Although nothing special in terms of craftsmanship, the knife sparked my love for knives and the outdoors so will always have a place in my heart. Thank you for the chance and congrats on the membership upgrade

Who could pass up this give away.

My first traditional was my first pocketknife. My aunt Elva gave it to me when I was a pre-teen (I didn't even know what that was back then). She worked at the General Store in Sunnybank, VA and they had it in a countertop store display. It was a Tree Brand medium stockman and was sharp enough for me to whittle out my first carving of a fishing boat of the type prevalent in the area then. I lost it some time after I got back to Louisiana, but I'll never forget that knife, my aunt, or the vacation. Since I was so stupid and careless as to lose it, I can't post a photo of it, but it had a little round shield with a tree on it and black covers and the typical three blades of a stockman. Medium size by my standard today. Maybe close to the Schrade 34 OT my dad had when he died. I can post a photo of it:

Spent a lot of time fishing when we were there and later in life, chasing crabs up and down the river with a crab net and a skiff. I have very fond memories of that particular era of my life with my mom, dad, Papa and Momma, and dad's 8 living brothers and sisters. Alas, they are all gone now and I miss them all.

My first traditional was a rusted up SAK clone I found at the back of my dads woodshed when I was about 6. I spent weeks trying to open all the various tools to clean it. Great comp thank you!!

Congratulations Bob and thank you for the chance. The knife that led me to this was given to me by the guy that trained me in the field of rescue back around 96.Its a Toledo Australia 420 stainless.Whether it was made here or not i don't know.It keeps sharp but has terrible bladeplay perhaps from hard use/mistreatment .Its a kind of Buck110 or Schrade lb7 knock off.It went missing and I found it in one of my tool boxes all filthed up and rusty. I went looking for advice on cleaning and sharpening.Discovered BF then i discovered Schrade and ebay....pic to follow.

Bob, congrats to you and also a thank you for a great give away!!!

Here's my most prized knife. A 1970 #62087 Serpentine Jack that I bought when I was Seven. I had saved my allowance and Lawn Mowing money fro what seemed an eternity to buy this and I have had the great fortune to still possess it to this day. The smooth worn red bone and "well earned" patina has come to be over the last 40 some years

Thanks again,

Thanks for the contest, Bob.

My first knife ever was a Schrade Old Timer 34OT that was given to me by my grandfather. Within a couple of years I lost that knife at Cub Scouts, but immediately bought an identical replacement, and put that replacement away so it wouldn't get lost like the other. Well over 35 years later I still have that replacement, and the 'lesson' learned about how to not lose knives (keep them put away) was probably the start of my collecting habit.

Don't have a picture handy of that 34OT, but here's a couple of Old Timers from my collection. These are more interesting anyway. :)

My first traditional was a 70's era victorinox soldier blue colored given to me by my Dad, and thank you for the chance.

Great knife, thanks for the opportunity!

My first traditional was a 60's-era Camillus barlow that my grandfather had put to hard use. The main blade has no snap and has been sharpened to a shadow of its former self. The tip protrudes from the body when closed, because of the sharpening, I think. All the same, it's a pretty knife with an even, dark gray patina, and the pen blade is very sharp. I had it in my possession for years, but only recently started carrying a knife. Because of the family history (and the snagging tip!), Grandpa's barlow isn't in my EDC rotation.

It was a tradition in my family for the sons to get their first pocketknives at around age 7. My first was a Schrade Old Timer 34OT stockman. My father and older brother both had one just like it. I hadn't had it for a week before I broke the tip off of the clip blade doing something stupid. I was upset and showed my dad...he just grinned and pulled out his knife, broken clip blade and all. I guess we all make mistakes.

I lost that particular knife somewhere along the way, but I have replaced it with another Old Timer stockman. Every time I carry it I think about my childhood on the farm. If I can keep this one around until I have kids, I'll give it to my son (or daughter) on his (her?) seventh birthday.

Thanks for the chance.
