But here is more important first, my first knife I got as give away, from Duncan.

Thanks for the chance, it is a great knife you are giving away, and congrats for your dealer membership.

Here's my first knife. It's a Sabre that was given to me by my Dad about 30 years ago. I can't believe I still have it and that it didn't get lost between then and now. The backsprings are worn out and it's about as sharp as a butter knife, but it's still the most important to me.

My first traditional was a Buck 110 my dad gave me foe my 7th birthday. That was 28 years ago. Thank you for the opportunity and your generosity.

Thanks for the chance!

My first pocket knife was a small (probably 2 3/4" to maybe 3 1/4") pearl handled Jack knife with a main Clip and Pen secondary.
The year would have been 1975-1977, I was 7-9 years old. I bought it at a Ben Franklin store (with my own money) in Charlevoix Michigan on vacation with my parents.
I think it was an Imperial. The Imperials I have seen from that era have those sort of clamped on bolsters and the plastic film for handles but mine had solid handles and bolsters.

This is my first traditional knife.

Oh yea, and this is NOT an entry. I just won something, and it's time for someone else's chance.

I bought myself a queen mini trapper d2 about 2 years ago. I carry it often. I've bought a few more traditionals since then but that one is special to me.

when i was 6 or seven. a basement of an old hardware store near harrisburg, PA. a two bladed jack knife. carbon steel blades and brown bone handles. badge shield. think is was a camillus. not sure 40 some years later. got lost in one of many moves. do remember i broke the tip off the master clip blade. trying to stick it in the ground. wish i still had it, and the man that bought me that knife, that special first knife, my dad. thank you dad. i miss you both. thank you for the chance bob.

Congrats on your dealership. Thank you for your generosity with the offering.

My first traditional was a Case old red bone, pocket worn barlow. The top heavy weight of the jack style intially dissapointed me, however, I have since fallen for the pattern's classic lines. That was the start of me collecting and carrying traditional patterns.

Thanks for offering the knife.

My first trad was a Schrade Old Timer Stockman 108OT. 2 3/4" with the saw cut delrin handles. I can't remember when I bought it but I still have it and it's in great condition.

Oh ok...
So you ready for the big story, about my first traditional?
Its a long one, here we go....
I got an Imperial Kamp King off of the exchange.
:p
But in all seriousness, I guess it would be my Schrade SP3. I went over to my grandparents house for dinner one night, and on the kitchen counter I saw a lockback. I liked it. I wanted it. I asked my grandfather about it, he didnt seem to know much. Didnt know how to close it, or that it closed at all. I showed him, then put it down. A while later, I asked about pocket knives again, he mentioned he had one (the Schrade) somewhere, and if I ever found it, I could have it.
Naturally, I searched for it and got it.
Its somewhere around my bedroom, im pretty fond of that knife.
Thanks for the chance at the Boy's knife, ive really been wanting one of those.
:D

my first traditional was an old boker barlow that my uncle Larry gave me that was his grandpas....

one of my favorites....

Bob,
1st: Thanks very much, for the GAW, and also for being a vendor on BF, I like this place and folks like you help keep it 'online'.
2nd: My first traditional was a Buck 110, long lost. My first slipjoint was a Buck 319 that my wife bought for me at the factory store in El Cajon in 1991, I still have it and carry it...I'll snap a pic and post it tomorrow. It's a special one as, of course, my wife bought it for me and also because I used it on my first job after leaving the Navy.

this has turned out to be an awesome thread in and of itself. The stories are awesome, AND there's a giveaway:eek:

My first was a Buck 30x. I don't remember the model, but I remember saving up the money and getting to the hardware store to find out they raised the price since the last time I was there. The local banker happened to be in the store that same day and gave me the two quarters I needed to purchase it. If I remember right it was $7.50.

Thanks for the chance, and congrats on the membership!

My first knife ever was an old Delrin handled Colonial stockman. My father gave the knife to me when I was somewhere around four years old. Shortly after giving it to me he wanted to teach me some knife safety. He proceeded to show me the things not to do, in the process he was cutting on a carrot from our garden which broke while he was demonstrating and he ended up slicing his finger pretty good. It was a good lesson and I was always careful with how I used the knife.

I still have the knife and will post up a picture when I get some better lighting and can get a decent picture of it.

Thanks for the generosity and for supporting the forum. Best wishes for success.

Great stories all, thanks for sharing them.

Bought this knife at TG&Y sometime in the 70's, remember being suckered in by Uncle Henry's "free replacement if lost" guarentee. Wasn't guarenteed against stupid use (which I am obviously guilty of), I snapped it using it as a screwdriver while working on my motorcycle. In those days I took auto mechanics at a Vo-Tech and worked after school at a truck stop. This knife cut lots of hose, scraped hundreds of gaskets and after I snapped the blade doubled as a screwdriver. Hard to afford a replacement back then so I used it anyway and as a reminder not to abuse a knife ... never broke another. After being lost for many years, my brother-in-law found a box of old knives while cleaning my folks place and it was inside. The memories this knife holds are priceless.

Thanks for the chance at the giveaway.

My first knife was given to me by my dad when I was a kid back in the late 80's. It is a little two blade Colonial advertising knife. I carried that little knife just about everywhere I went as a kid and thought it was lost until just recently. After going through a few boxes of my stuff left at my dad's house I came across it again. So happy to have it back. I can't help but smile whenever I look at it. It's about as dull as a spoon and I don't think I ever sharpened it. Even though I have a few more knives collected over the years, it's still one of my favorites.

I am trying to reduce the number of knives I own, but this generous offer is too sweet to pass by. Thank you!

I have posted many times about my Grandad and how his regular carry and use of a pocket knife created my interest. I finally saved enough money from mowing lawns and delivering newspapers to buy my own knife. It was just a cheap shell handle Colonial barlow, but he raved about how nice it was.

I still have it, nearly 45 years later. It is the top one pictured below.

One of the shell handles was loose, and finally came off.

It has really good blade steel, so I decided to have it rehandled in bone. While it was at the bone doctor I asked if he could reprofile the fairly large pen blade into a sheepsfoot.

What I sent:

What I got back:

It is a regular use knife again, and that marigold bone sure can brighten up a day!

I think my recent interest in traditionals is due in part to me chasing that first one that never was. Against the better judgment of my father, I chose a Gerber Gator as my first knife over a Buck 110 when the Gator's first came out back in the day. I still have the Gator but this memory prompted me to try out some Bucks when I got interested in knives a couple years ago. I tried out 110s, 112s and some 300s and although I liked all of them, I have grown very fond of the 112 and 303.

The 110 is nice but I usually don't need the extra size over the 112, which I've discovered is just about the perfect do-it-all tweener for me. Big enough blade to handle almost any cutting chore, large enough for my large hands to get a reasonably full grip, lockback design for added safety while maintaining the simple and smooth profile that I just can't find with other types of locks. And just as important, it's still just small enough that it's more or less manageable as a pocket knife. I might have overpaid but I managed to snag this 3 dot 112 just last night in an auction. It will be my oldest knife and it is just old enough to have plausibly been my first knife. By some amazing coincidence, it's also coming from just a few miles from where I grew up. I'm pretty sure it will become a favorite, especially on the weekends.

But as we all know, the chase for a knife to fill one need has got me thinking about another. That 303 I ended up with (and the very similar GEC #33) have been my go-to weekday knives when I'm in an office at a desk. I really like the practical versatility and pocketability of these three-bladed knives coming in around 3.5" long. But this single blade weekend knife makes me think that a single blade weekday knife would make quite the complement and take care of whatever I need done knife-wise.

Thanks for the generous giveaway and congratulations on the jump to dealer!
