My first tooling on a bushcrafter style sheath - need opinions.

So - I have some Walt Knives to make sheaths for. I wanted to dress up a set of sheaths for Walt's knives so I decided on some simple abstract (more primitive) style tooling. (These were somewhat inspired by Ilbuchre and to a MUCH less degree Rick.

Anyway - here is it - your comments are welcome. Does it add or distract? Would you sport it? Does it need a silver lanyard tube or leave it?

Here is a glamour shot of Walt's knife too.

personally i love this style, i think it's dying for copper hardware with this color dye, not sure if you've ever tried that. but i love this kind of "primitive" or "abstract" tooling. looks great. love walts work too.

Also i would like to add how sick it makes me when ppl on this forum post "first tries" of things i couldn't do on my 20th. haha. just needed to vent that.

Very nice  I would personally prefer a basket weave, but I am sure it is only a matter of time.

I like it too. And I hate you for your artistic ability. Seriously. Ok I'm not really serious. (Maybe).

I like the sheath and agree that copper would be awesome looking.

I agree with the copper - The problem is trying to find EVERYTHING in copper or brass. The D ring would be no problem - but I have yet to find the right length Chigago screw....

Hmmm - I think I know where to find that.

Barber - I can do a basketweave - I just didn't want to do it on a Bushcrafter style knife.

Maybe I am wrong.

That is way cool:thumbup: Could you do the entire sheath with that texture and still wetform it?

It would have to be wetformed first and then textured. I think, though, it would look really beat up - instead of cool.

To me the texture on the sheath is too small with the squared off end, looks off (but still better than any sheath I have done).

I like it, maybe a bit of tooling - like a tiny bit of basket weave on the wet formed part would really bring it out. I like how the tooled part highlights the blade of the knife. My recommendation would be that a different bit of pattern on the wood form would highlight the handle of the knife.

It really looks great as is though.

I like that very much..
Waaay better then using them stamps, which make them look all alike..
Great work bro..

Did you test your stitching btw?
After I tested my own I stepped away from double stitching..

Keep them coming

I like the effect the tooling puts on the sheath but do not like that it's only on a portion of the sheath. I think it would look much better on the entire sheath.

Like I said though - the tooling itself looks great.

Very nice, cool tooling. I would be very proud of it if it was mine. If I could have had a choice on the sheath, I think the tooling throughout the whole knife pocket and the outside border plain would look nice. A ferro holder could be an addition. Like the dangler. You are very talented. Everyone has a different idea, I'm sure as you make something you have already figured out another way to change it. You are an artist.

Im with shotgun on this one i prefer clean and simple. but all your work is very impressive .

I would definitely sport that one Jason. Nice job. One thing I would consider is using a slightly thicker leather for this type of sheath.
