My Foxy Folly

When I did mine it took multiple coats. It looked splotchy at first, but after buffing for a few minutes it evened out. I followed Yvsa's advice and cleaned it well, and heated in the tap. I used Birchwood Casey.

Don't know it this is a good idea but it helps me get a more even blue.
1. Clean, clean again.
2. Heat the blade with hot tap water.
3. Rub on the blue. I like Brownell's Oxpho-Blue.
4. Dip a piece of 0000 (the finest) steel wool in the blueing and rub the blade with it. I don't know what this does. I guess it cuts through to bare steel and lets the blueing "bite". This will give you a somewhat satin like finish, but still shiny.

Your mileage may vary.
