Ok...it wasn't actually free. I worked very hard for it.
In January, 16 of my co-workers and I decided to do a weight loss challenge. The rules were simple; everyone puts in $50 and come June 1st we all weigh in and the 1 person with the largest percentage of total weigh loss wins the pot.

My initial weigh-in on January 7th was 316 pounds (6'3")
My final weigh-in on June 1st was 254 pounds. I lost 62 pounds (19.6%) in just under 5 months. So, I was the winner and I happily collected my $850 cash.
My goal throughout this challenge was to buy a Hinderer knife. I decided on a XM-18 3.5 Skinner 2 tone blade (2016 LE). I couldn't be happier. I made the purchase from Action Concepts. It was a perfect transaction.
I still have the other $425 in the bank and I'm thinking maybe an Umnumzaan...... but I'm in no rush.
I just wanted to share my story. Here's my Prized Hinderer.

Nice Hinderer and congrats on the weight loss! How did you go about losing that much weight?

Thanks. Healthy diet and exercise. I retired from the military in 2012 and packed on some pounds.
I guess the best thing I did was I started making healthier choices. Instead of fried chicken I ate baked chicken etc. I drank lots of water and cut out all diet soda. I got religious with my workout routine. 3-4 days a week of elliptical/treadmill. I can honestly say I didn't miss a single scheduled workout. Of course without my wife's support and her healthy cooking and shopping, I couldn't have done it.

Excellent job! Now to keep it off! 5 years ago I lost a similar amount of body weight, about 20%. I have to still make those good eating choices for the most part and hit the gym to keep it off but have done so. Sounds like you did the loss the right way without fad diet BS so I think you should be able to keep it off!

Nice knife too. Of all the hinderer blade shapes that one is my favorite. Congrats all around!

Great Job. Will have better health and got a Great Knife to boot!!!
Congrats 👍👍 Kevin

You gotta love when hard work pays off. Congrats on the knife. And congrats on your healthier self. There is no price you can put on good health. I think I'll go for a run after work today. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation.

Great story Hokie!!! That blade is more than a sweet blade in your eyes!! A great sense of accomplishment!!
Enjoy that knife.....you earned it!
Joe

Congrats! You worked really hard for that!! That is an awesome accomplishment and an oh, so sweet reward!!

That's awesome man!

This would be the perfect definition of a win-win situation?!!

Great choice of knives, I really enjoy the XM's and a Zaan is the next knife on my list....

Congrats.

Thanks everyone. Man...I am blown away by this knife. NOW I understand why Hinderers are so popular. I can't imagine not having this knife in my pocket.

You are welcome. Nothing more important than good health and time with your family.

Congratulations on achieving a personal goal!!!!! Well done.
I hope you keep the Hinderer (gorgeous knife btw) as a constant reminder of why you earned it. I hope you reach into your pocket for it during those tempting times to reassure yourself the fight is a continuous endeavor. But mostly, may it be a symbol of your strength and what matters the most to you.
Keep it forever!!!!!!

I've owned several of each, and my preference is the Zaan. The XM is just too heavy-duty for my casual needs.
You did a great job with the weight-loss program. I don't exercise much, so mainly I just starve myself and watch the total calories to lose pounds.
Works best when my wife is out-of-town, as she is a great cook.

Those two tone skinners are so damn good looking. Congrats on the extreme weight loss and on the reward. Definitely well earned!
