My friend needs some RAT's

4" is more than enough knife for most things you need to do. If you are batoning big stuff, then having a bit more length will help. I rarely feel under knifed with a 4" blade, except when I'm cooking and cutting up watermelon and such. In that case, step right up to the RC6 :D

Thanks for all the input!
I can clearly see what your preferance is :D
I was just wondering, will the RC-4 not attract funny looks from other people coming by his house, like the think he has a little sword hangin from his belt?
And on the other side, does it perform well enough in the woods, shelter making, fuzz sticks, batoning and slicing, due to is small size?

Greetings,
Dirk

4.5 inches isn't too large, I regularly carry a folder with a 4+ inch blade.

BTW, I'm really suprised about almost no one saying option 2/3.
My first thougt was option 2, since he wanted the RC-5 really badly.
Now you guys made me hesitate even more!:D
Hell, I'm really sure we will end up with owning them all, but it's just the cash problem.
We can't afford to buy them all at the same time, but if we order like 2, then wait and then order 2 again we have to deal with huge shipping costs.

So that's also a consideration.

ONE MORE THING I AM WONDERING ABOUT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS NOW:
The izula is the perfect EDC FB knife.
The RC-3 is the perfect military and around the ranch knife.
The RC-4 is the perfect allround knife, it excells in almost everything.
If you want to chop you buy the RC-6 cause that one is the longest and still cuts like a bamf.

So why buy an RC-5?(Please understand me, I'm looking for logical explanations, the emotional I know allready)........... (It's darn beautiful :D:D)
Anyway, unless you are a pilot why might get trapped in a helicopter why would you want an RC-5?

The thickness can't be the reason, if the RC-4 breaks due to his lesser thickness, you just get a new one ;)

(whining modus end :D)

Very true that you would get a new one, but if you are purposefully looking to beat the shit out of the knife then an RC-5 would be in order. It would really suck to need a pry-bar and break your RC-4. Because not only did you break your RC-4 and now you have to wait til you get home to do the warranty process, but you still need something to pry whatever the hell you are prying. If you really have no plans of using your knife for stuff like that then don't get the RC-5. Just get a 12 dollar pry-bar from the hardware store and throw it in your trunk for emergencies. Look if you know it's just a bad-ass knife then wait to get it after you get the ones you know you will actually carry and use. because we all have knives that we just had to have. . .just because. That's my story and I'm stickin to it!

Hornady, I think you didn't activate the option for others to be able to PM you. It's in the user CP.

Anyway, I live and work in Wageningen (GLD), that isn't 'om de hoek' for you, I think. However, I'm walking the Nijmeegse 4-daagse so if you're in that neighbourhood between 19/7-24/7, perhaps we can arrange something. A plus in that would be that by that time I should also be able to show you guys an RC5 (and an RC3 already in my posession [;-)). Otherwise, the DKE on 24/10 in Tiel might be an opportunity (you a member of messenforum.nl?).

Hope this helps.
