My grinder and hydraulic pedestal

I rebuilt my old hollow grinder and made a pedestal that is adjustable with the use of a bottle jack. The jack is threaded for another range of height adjustment also, total about 12". The color is Aspen green engine paint (burrking color). The belt tensioner is from Burrking factory.

I can use 2" x 72" or 2"x 132" belts at this time but Im going to weld a T slot so I can adjust the new Bador back idler to accept any length belt between those sizes.

She has a 14" contact wheel recovered and balanced by Steven Bador Co and a variable speed 1 HP DC motor from Boing Surplus. The pedestal is 6"x6" square tubing welding onto 1/2" thick steel plate. This thing is heavy and rock solid. I cant wait to bolt it to the floor and grind something.

Thanks for looking.

 WOW!!!!! Nice grinder:thumbup: :D But what's that tall ugly thing next to it, in the third pic?????  HEHEHEHE!!!!

That's a sweet setup Bruce! After seeing that matchlock masterpeice I was wondering what kind of goodies you made for your shop.

That looks Smokin Bruce! 14" contact wheel !!! Very cool. I really like you v-belt guard as well.

Bruce, do you really use 12" range of height adjustment? I have only started using my grinder but i thought that elbow height was the preferred standard height to work at.
Enlighten me. :D

I can use this one sitting or pump it up for standing. I hope my back feels better after 6-8 hours of grinding. I can get it right there in the sweet height for my bifocal glasses too. You young pups may not need such a contraption.

Im looking into a fully adjustable heated and vibrating massage chair to go with it.
:D

OOOoo, I like the height-adjustment idea. Even if you just use it upon initial set up to get the best location for you and leave it there, that's more than a lot of guys get.

Man Bruce, I'm really liking that grinder! Now to figure out how to modify my KMG!!Organic tool rest, ha ha ha.

Sweet grinder stand, Bruce!

You going to be at Blade this year?

Got any projects ya workin' on lately....pics...?

WOW

That is a fantastic set up Bruce. I had never tried grinding setting down. But man, my old back can get to hurting after a day at the grinder. I spent some time at the Loveless grinders a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to try the sitting down thing. What do you know. It was more like driving a Cadi. than an old farm truck. How do you find the 1 hp. I have heard that they are very under powered. Or is yours ac, and getting all the vari control from the belts. I just picked up a 1 1/2 Hp. vari Burr King a couple of weeks ago, upon my return form Loveless's. Man! How did I get by with out one for 30+ years. I told the wife, that when doing fine work on a double edge it is more like stepping onto an escalator, than trying to catch a ride on a run away train! Mike

Nice idea!
Good luck finding the heated massage chair... I tried getting one at work, but they nixed the $3500 price tag... i guess they don't appreciate quality, huh?
I need to find me some big tubing like that.
