Oh man, I’ve only been into knife collecting for less than a year and I’m already 63 deep (only 26 USA made but I’m not made of money …).

If anyone has the chance, you need to check out the secondary market in Japan. You can get USA made knives for really great prices. And Japanese collectors take *really* good care of their knives and always keep the packaging, so it’s like buying new. Also, counterfeiting is a big problem in Asia, so people selling clones get recognized and banned a lot quicker than US secondary sites it seems like.

If you check out my picture, except for the Kizers (which I like as edc/toys since they have good “fidgety” action and are cheap, as opposed to high quality USA made knives which I carry for actual outdoor use), all but 6 of the bottom 39 knives are from secondary sites Mercari, Yahoo Auction and PayPay Flea Market.

Some of the prices I’ve paid are *insane*. ¥8,000($54) for a Benchmade Presidio 2, ¥7,000 ($47.50) for a BM Tengu, ¥16,500 ($120) for a Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2, ¥12,000 ($81.50) for a Techno 1. All of these didn’t have the original box which really drops the price in the JP secondary market.

Everything else was ~10-30% lower than the original retail price. For 5+ year old knives, that is so cheap by todays standards!

I see an alarming trend in your CRTO ( Chris Reeve To Others) coefficient, 1 in 63. The only way to correct this issue and overcome this serious quantity vs quality imbalance is to immediately purchase a Sebenza. 😉

Welcome to the forums my friend! Ive only been seriously into this hobby for a bit over two years now. Ive been down many different rabbit holes along the way. Thanks to the good folks on this page teaching me a ton of knowledge. The first six months of my collecting I mainly purchased Kershaw's, as that's all I knew in the past and I also used to think that anyone who spent over a hundred bucks on a knife was crazy 🤣! Ahhh the simpler times 😅😉.

If you could only keep one?

No, no, no! Beware of the CRK cult!
Les George is the chosen one! You must buy Les George to get to knifephoria!!

Great collection!

Where are some good places to check out what's F/S in Japan?
That is not something to be listed or discussed here. You may do so privately if you wish.

Buying that many knives in less than a year seems like more of a shopping or retail therapy addiction not a knife addiction. Collecting, while at its core is obtaining different knives, is more about the journey and learning about them as you grow and progress. Its about using them, appretiating the subtle differences in shape, grind, function/form, the community around them, etc. Simply buying them at that rate is just retail therapy filling some other void. Many of these are not cheap either. I remember getting my Spydiechef after YEARS of collecting blades and was so blown away by how well it was made and ground, as well as the completely stainless lc200n steel. When you simply just make purchase after purchase, what is the point of this hobby? Its just contributing the already rampart consumerism within our culture.
