My Idea... Maybe to start a bushcraft internet group under JK?

You know what. I have crazy ADHD sometimes, and I keep meaning to get some pictures & use my knife! The weather here has been cruddy and this thread got me thinking. Maybe some people here besides me either forget a camera, or don't have anything spectacular to do in the woods. What if we start a new thread and if somebody wants to participate they put their name in. Here's the idea. Put down your name, a number 1-50 (i'm sure there won't be more than 50 people entering) and the name of your knife. We come up with a long list of woods skills like fire making, shelter making and such (fishing or hunting if you're into that, maybe put it next to your name?) and the number designated is picked by stomper as to the skill. Then, at some point in the next week or two we go do what was designated, take pics and write a review. Just an idea, feel free to refine it or speak up if it's dumb. Just a thought. I think a designated task for me would not only get me out there on a mission, but maybe refine our skills or teach us new skills? Maybe it can be a monthly thing i dunno. Anyways, lemme know what you guys think.

How about we just skip the number picking and choose an outdoor skill ourselves.

Kinda funny ya brought this up. Today I was wondering how well my anniversary EDC would do as my main hiking/camping blade and also how well it would do for cleaning animals and fish.

I'll probably write up a review for the EDC for some general camping chores in a few days. Reviews for how well it cleans game is gonna have to wait til september or october(hunting season).

Just choose a skill and do it. This forum may not be here after January, I think it expires this January or the next one, I`m not sure.

Hey John, silly question, but when you say expires, are you talking about all of blade forum, or just your hosted section? Is the hosted sections a service that you, the knife makers, have to pay for?

Knifemakers have some kind of contract to pay a fee for a certain span of time to have a hosted forum on BF

Can somebody give me an idea as to what i should do haha. I'm bad at setting out with something i thought up because i tend to change my mind, but if i get an idea here from someone it's easier. I may be going through the woods tomorrow to get to a fishing spot.

Might be cool to see a demo of survival fishing skills. Take a bit of line, hook & split shot (typical of what one might have in a survival tin), use your JK to cut and trim a stick for a pole and maybe to dig out some grubs from a rotten log as bait and use your creation to land a fish. You could even go full circle and use your blade to build a fire, prep your catch and have a dinner!

That sounds like a great idea!

If I remember correctly from some past photos, Suzuki is quite the young fisherman. He will probably end up with a fish that will make me jealous!

Hi SuzukiGS750EZ -

How about making a snare-trap (not sure of the correct naming).

I have seen mention of this on the WSS forum but I have never seen one made nor do I know how they work.

I am talking about the type with a notch-stick etc.

I am not a bush-crafter; I have never made a bush in my life, but I have drank many a Busch. :D

best regards -

Hey guys, no picking on me! Last one i caught was 22" 5lbs off a plastic frog. I'll definately try and do the whole primitive fishing thing. A snare trap i can do also, i saw one in a native american museum and decided to imitate it. I'll get a list of stuff together tonight. Am i allowed to use normal hooks?

I hope i don't hook into one that big, theres no drag on those old pine sticks lol.
I'll try and get out tomorrow and do both tasks.

Suzuki, that last fish is a pig!

As far as hooks go, if you actually made something like a gorge hook (basically a short stick with points at both ends, it turns and lodges in the fish's mouth) or some other primitive hook, that would be totally cool. I noticed that you practice C&R at the pond you fish (the majority of my fishing is catch and release too) the gorge or other primitive hooks might not be your best bet for a healthy release.

While not everyone may include fishing gear in a PSK, I think it's a safe bet that those who do have a few modern hooks thrown in so you are probably good either way.

Good luck!
