Howdy!
Hope that title wasn't too confusing.

Lately, I've "embarked" on a challenge for myself.
Decide on a knife, and carry it and ONLY it for 1 year.

Really hard to do.
Everytime I put one in my pocket, I feel as though it's the one, until I think about my other knives.

Has anybody else tried this?
How the heck did you stop changing your EDC?

Oh, and if you want, throw up a picture of your knife and how long you carried it.

i just cant ahah. just last week i switched knives everyday except sunday where i carried my 0450

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think I could do it.........

Something always comes along that I "have" to buy and try.

Settled on one model that was checking all the boxes for me and bought multiples of. For the last 4 years I've carried almost exclusively the Spyderco Military model. Fortunately, even if the model & specs remain the same, the Military line carries enough variation in terms of materials that I'm fully satisfied with the decision.

That collection of military's is insane!!

Also, I can't do the one knife life. Even my ultra favorites I get bored of. Variety is the spice of life! Granted, I'm still convinced the Horizon D will be THE knife, but then again, I've said that for pretty much all my knives lol

Years ago I had an edc rotation of several knives. I was constantly looking for "the one" an adding to the rotation. I finally broke down and bought my grail which was a pheasant tail Sebenza. It was the most money I had ever invested in a knife but I never once regretted the purchase. The Sebenza replaced the group of knives and I sold most of them. It was my only edc for many years and I was happy with it. A couple years ago I bought a ZT as a gift for my son. That purchase put me back on the path of multiple edc knives. I'm not where I once was with the variety of my folders but I do have several knives that see regular pocket time including the Sebenza. I'm sure I could go back to just one but I enjoy the variety I use.

It can be done!
I have done this with a Sebenza, a CQC7 and a Spyderco Para Military.
I will now try this feat with a Spyderco Native 5 LW.
Good luck.

Ive done it with a Byrd Robin for a little over a year, and a pm2 for almost 2 years. Anymore i have a dedicated work knife i carry 5 days a week(a different pm2), and when i get home and on weekends i switch it out with something different(most of the time a zt0450cf).
No plans in doing it again though, i like switching it up.

I carried this pair for about 5 months straight a couple of years ago:

After the first couple of months it just became second nature and I didn't really think about my other knives (I also stopped buying new ones) since they weren't going to get carried anyway. I probably could have gone a full year with them if I had wanted to.

I can and have done it. I have a knife that I carried for 4 years. You can do it too!! :)

Hi Boss -

I have seen the one knife challenge done here several times - a little searching might bring those threads up for you, but I am being a bad, lazy man at the moment.

However, I do have one and only one true EDC that I carry come heck or high water, and that is my little VIC Waiter. It has been with me every day for many years.

For my rotation, I always have a one-handed opening clip-on modern knife and sometimes rotate in a traditional slip joint for fun or for a specific reason.

If doing the one knife challenge is how you enjoy the hobby, that is cool! Make it more fun by documenting the year here and post pictures every week or so to show the progression of the patination of the knife, and what you are using your "one year knife" for as the lone soldier in your daily cutting war.

Good luck!

best

I've carried a buck mayo cutback for over 10 years now - anytime i could without it being a problem.
once recently i had to take it out of my pocket and slip it into my boot to get into a football game.

its nothing special, but i like the fit and finish and it was a gift from a good friend, so that what I roll with

Respect.^
My dad also carried one folder for many years, a Case Fish Knife folder.
Good thread.

Not something I worry about. Life is too short. Cool if you want to carry only one. If you are fortunate enough, like many of us here, to have multiple nice knives; carry all or none.

See, this is why no one likes you.

I have to concur though. I could easily stick to the same model of knife for that period of time and could probably do the same single knife if there was something at stake, but what for?

Variety is the spice of life. It's either switch up the blades or switch up the lover. The knives are easier to trade out than my wife is.

I carried a Microtech LCC almost everyday for about 15 years. I'd switch to an Emerson Specwar when wearing scrubs (I work in a hospital) or exercising in gym shorts because it hangs better with a drawstring waistband. But the LCC would be with me in every other setting.

I tried other knives, by the LCC was just a perfect fit for my hand. And the blade shape and grind were perfect for everything I need a knife to do.

I only stopped carrying it when I lost it in the Montreal metro. I thought a Sebenza might be able to replace it, but it doesn't feel right. Recently bought another LCC for a crazy high price off eBay. Glad to be reunited with this old friend!

That sounds like self-deprivation. A blade diet if you will. I'll have no part of that!

^^^BTW, I should explain that I didn't do this on purpose.

I had at least a dozen other folding knives, but the combination of Microtech LCC for daily use and Emerson Specwar for scrubs/shorts worked so well that I rarely reached for anything else.

The LCC has been so good for me that I'm approaching Greg Lightfoot to make me a custom version. It's no longer in his catalog (the Suppressor is similar), but I hope he'll be willing to make one for me.

An SnG has been in my pocket 12 years now. Prior to that a BG-42 Sebenza for 2 years.
