I just opened my mail and inside was the new Kabar MK I. I think a lot of you guys are going to like it this knife.

I did some quick cutting tests and it slices paper as well as my best knife and it also 's cuts wood extremely well, almost as well as a Mora knife! The handle feels comfortable. The sheath is also better than I expected. I have the same style sheath for my full size Kabar but this smaller one seems "just right" for this size knife and it holds the knife securely and safely. I might have to try the leather handle version just because I like this one soo much.

Check it out...

Love that grip. They really got it right with that knife. Bushcrafters will love these.

Do you happen to have a Camillus Pilot Survival knife or an Ontario SP25 to compare it to? I have been considering these three knives recently.

The pilots survival knife is not in the same catagory knife as this one. This one has a thin edge and is designed for cutting. The pilots survival knife isn't what I consider a good cutting knife.

This knife is probably the best wood cutting military style knife that I have seen. As I mentioned earlier, it's pretty close to a Mora in terms of wood cutting ability. Fire sticks are very easy to make with this knife.

For bushcraft/woodcraft type cutting chores this knife will outperform any other US military style knife that I know of.

Been waiting for this one.

Actually, been waiting for the leather handle one. Any idea when those will come out?

Looks like a nice new spin on an old classic to me I'm very impressed and glad to see KA-BAR introduce and revive some different models.

I wish they'd do away with the ricasso, I don't really understand the point of that. Otherwise, I love it. Looks like a real versatile knife.

I'm with you about the ricasso, I'd prefer the edge start as close to the guard as possible like on moras or some other Scandinavian knives.

But this knife is American made, it looks like a military knife should and it cuts better than most of you would expect from such a thing. Add the bitchn sheath system and you have a decent knife.

I think this will be the knife for me then. I have a pilot survival knife which I convexed and it works pretty well now.
Do you have some other knives you can take comparison photos with? I'd like to have something to compare this knife to.

I don't think more photos are going to better describe the knife. It's very similar to the pilot survival knife size and probably weight but it cuts much much better. The blade is ground better and the edge is thin enough for good wood cutting. Also the weight is in the handle similar to the pilot surival knife.

I like the style of the pilot survival knife and I like military knives in general but I've always been disapointed with their ability to cut wood. I like carving, making things with branches, etc. so I measure all my knives by how well they can cut wood. This one can cut wood enough for me to like it.

The sheath is much better than the pilot survival knife sheath but it still has that same military look to it which I like. In a way this knife could be considered an updated version of the pilot survival knife.

I don't need one of those. I don't need one of those. I don't need one of those. I don't need one of those. I don't need one of those. I don't need one of those.

I want one of those.
