My KBAC-27D Came In

Well I have everything to wire up the VFD now so I will be tackling that this evening, but first I have to clean out the room and modify my etcher. If everything goes well I may video tape it running and post it on youtube. I still need to make my VFD mount, so this is just a motor/VFD test.

As of tonight my GIB is up and running:thumbup: No electrical sparks, the motor runs smoothly, played with it for about 40 minutes and no excess heat anywhere:D

I am a little upset with you guys for hiding how much easier it is to turn metal into powder:mad: And how much nicer the the ground finish is over the filed finish. No wonder it takes me 3X as long to hand sand as everyone else:p

I was going to take a video of its maiden voyage and post it up, but in my excitement to get it running I forgot to charge the video camera. It is charging now and I will try get a decent video of it running and making the good sparks tomorrow. Now I need to get some steel and a bunch more belts. For now it time to catch up on some posts and go to bed:cool:

Glad to hear everything is working well for you. Hopefully I will have mine up and running in the next few weeks. I just ordered my KBAC-27d this evening. Thanks again for the info. on the best prices.

Well I made a little video of the grinder up and running and I will post it after it finishes rendering. I think I am in love with this thing, I even made a little 4" overall knife out of a piece of scrap 1084 I had laying around. All free handed for the profile and just scribed where I wanted the grind lines to be then went back at it. 20 minutes later I was ready to do some hand sanding, tomorrow I will do a quick home HT and finish it up, complete with a kydex sheath and some natural linen micarta scales. that will be about 4 weeks faster than any other knife I made. the video will be another 1/2 hour or so to up load

Home Depot is about the best place for wiring stuff. Wholesalers can't even beat their prices. 12-3 SJOOW 300 volt will fit 1/2" strain relief conduits perfect and 12-4 SOOW 600 volt will fit 3/4" strain reliefs perfect. It took me a while to figure out wire sizes and clean looking conduits, but the 300 volt 12-3 and 600 volt 12-4 fits the respective 1/2" and 3/4 conduits perfect as well as the given holes in the controller. As for switches, State Electric should have everything in stock.

Well I couldn't get Movie Maker to put all the clips together, but here is one showing the grinder running. The VFD is mounted now, believe it or not I was out of 1/4" nuts and bolts at the time I was video taping:o

I just ordered a KBAC-27D today and didn't realize there where options :( I thought the controller had a built in forward / reverse stop switch but now that appears to be an option as well as the On/Off AC Line Switch. Which options do I need? Also picked up a brand new Baldor 2hp motor today for $70. Without any of the option what do you just power it on from the bottom right power button then just have forward only adjustable by the speed knob?

Thanks Mac

Where'd you buy yours? Wayne Coe sells forward/reverse switches, wire, cable glands but doesn't stock an on/off switch.

Even if you didn't buy it from him I'm sure he'd be happy to sell you the parts.

I like his set up as he also has detailed instructions to go with the unit....

$328 and they had one in stock. They are 2 days shipping via ground from me.

So in basic form no forward reverse or On/Off switch? Are they just standard switches?

I never bothered with a forward/reverse switch, just an on/off switch. I also didn't get the KB Electronics switch because the price was just a bit high for me on this side of the border, $90 if I remember right. I just went out and bought the switch that the count suggested in this post and have had no problems with it.

Thanks for the help. So what does the on/off switch do at the bottom right of the unit? The toggle switch you added is the middle right switch that you used the shut the motor off in the video correct?

Mac

The only switch that is on the VFD in that video is the run/stop switch, it comes installed, I added the on/off switch later. The stop run only stops or runs the motor, but doesn't kill power to the unit. With the on/off switch you can kill the power to the unit without unplugging it every time.

Ok I think I got it :) What was confusing me was the fact that I thought this unit had push button switches and toggle switches. Basically what I thought where push buttom switches where in fact hole covers????
