Here is my KMG, mounted to it's stand/table. The motor is mounted on a hinge plate, so as you can see in the pictures i can run 3 different pullies on the grinder itself off of one single pulley on the motor. I still need to add an adjustable dust collector, it will be adjustable in and out so it can be moved about under the different size wheels and platen. I can store all the accessories and stuff underneath the table on the little shelf, i also still need to build a belt rack and a tooling holder. The weight of the motor acts as the tensioner on the belt, and the whole plate can be flipper up and back to free up some table space(gotta get a picture of that). I know I know i have not painted it yet, too cold in the shop for the paint to dry quick enough:D, i will paint it this spring though DEFINATELY.

Is that an open frame motor I see just waiting to collect metal dust and short out?
Besides that, I'm jealous

Sam, very nice set up, but as Page mentioned ,,,, open frame motor. Mine has an open motor, but as of now I've had no issues with it. Nice set up

I got a question! Do you adjust your belt speed by moving the drive belt up or down that pulley wheel? I'm jealous at any rate....nice set-up.

Thanks guys. Yeah the open frame is only temporary, the first upgrade will be to the 2HP variable speed. I blow it out before and after each use, and i have to get a picture of when you tip it up and back it hangs over the back of the table way out of the way of any dust, which won't be a problem when i get the dust collector fabbed up.

MQ, you lift up on the hinge plate, then move the pulley over from one to the other. If you look in the 4th picture down, you see the pulley on the motor is centered with the center pulley on the KMG, you run the belt at an angle if you want to run it on the small=fast, or large=slow settings, the motor pulley and motor stay centered and do not move except to hinge closer to the KMG pulley for the larger=slow setting, or farther away for the small=fast. With a 2 1/2 inch wheel on the motor itself with the motor running at 3750 RPM, the machine will yeild with a 2.5-2 pulley configuration 2,926SFPM, 2.5-3 you get 2,617SFPM, and 2.5-4 you get 1,963SFPM.

cool looks like you have a nice shop all around it too

i like your big stone wheel and that miller welder

Thumbs up! hehe

I run mine a little slower using a step pully on the motor as well.

Thanks guys! I bought a second pulley to do just that, but forgot to look at the shaft size the pullies fit on:(, by the way if anyone needs a second pulley let me know, and the hardware store did not have a 3 step pulley in stock and i wanted to run the grinder:D. I figured a small pulley on the motor for alot of torque would be the best so i went with the 2 1/2 inch. Here is a close up shot of the paintjob on the table, I feel that anytime you are in the shop you should smile, so I like to give a wacky paintjob to my stuff when I can. That way even if you are having a rotten day when you look at your machines and use them they make you smile:D.

the little stencils are anvils, stars hammers and tongs:D.

Bryce, i rent and work for my landlord, who has a welding shop in the other 2/3rds of the building.

hahahah nice painting

lol looks like the table was nearly about to donate some steel

I pulled/rescued the table out from behind the welding shop it had about 10 or 20 layers of old paint on it from it's old job in the paint booth, ground off all the nasty old paint and a nice new painjob and it looked like a million bucks.

Sam - Thank you!! I just today picked up the motor for my NWGS, but I've been having difficulty trying to figure out how to mount it, that hinge is simple and perfect, I love it! (And I'm gonna use it, much better than the last idea I had..)

Good stuff Sam! I like the thumbs up pic the best, that's how I feel everytime I use mine. :D

Rob is the man!

Keep posting the stuff you're making, I always enjoy seeing new work and knowing you're progressing with the grinder!

Thanks guys! Ian GLAD I COULD HELP! I was hoping someone might be able to glean some use from my quirky little design. Thanks Nick, I feel the very same, sometimes i will be grinding and the forge will be burning, things nice and peaceful and i'll step away and just ROAR out laughing with happiness. Rob is the man! I sure will Nick, it is amasing the difference going from an angle grinder to the KMG(obviously lol), i have struggled for so long working with just an angle grinder, or borrowing some time on other's machines that when i finally got my own, it was love at first sight:).

Nice grinder
Have you considered mounting the motor under the table? Several advantages that way plus more bench space. Gavity will tension the belt too.

Thanks Bruce! I will have to get a picture of the grinder tipped back, it works the same as is now, but tips back over the rear of the table leaving the space it is in now free. But it is kind of a good thing, I don't like to have alot of clutter and stuff on that table, and in the shop any horizontal flat surface collects stuff:).

Cool set-up. Variable speed is nice, and one day I'll upgrade to it, but for now I'm using a double set of step pullies and they work great. I like the steel table, you've giving me the idea of building a steel table for my grinder when I get my shop build, it's curently sitting on a wood bench and I have to be careful sparks down't build up and set the top on fire.

Hi Sam, it's great to see you have your new KMG set up. I know you are excited to grind up some steel. Congrats!

As Bruce mentioned, I have my motor mounted under the table, but the pulley and belt are protruding out from the table without a guard. My son gives me hell for not having protection there. I'm sure if he saw your set up, he would say the same, maybe more. Be careful, and enjoy!

Best wishes, Don
