My Knife Spooked My Co-worker

It is suprising how ignorant some people can be. At school my science teacher was a Navy seal and carried an Emerson cqc. Well we had what are essentially retard handlers so that mentally retarded kids could be in class. Well one day one of the handlers saw my teacher pull out his knife andopen a box. She asked what it was for and he simply replyed that it was for cutting tape. Well she called down the principal and asked him to tell my teacher not to bring the knife to school anymore because it scared her. Now my principal was your typical dheeple liberal and came up to my teacher and asked can you please not take the knife to school anymore. My teacher responded by flicking out his knife and said that he had tenure and he wansen't going to have his rights taken away by a worthless liberal hippie nutjob. Classic.

Well what happened?

If you live in Indiana that teacher would be breaking state law, and I imagine a conviction is grounds for employment termination even if he has tenure. He is only allowed to carry a knife if authorized by the school corporation.

I think your absolutely right in being pissed off, basically you are being told to not use a TOOL that follows company regs. This is what I love about being in the army. You could have whatever knife you please around anyone including female soldiers without them giving you a second look.

Bottom line from me, the original poster....

1. My Employer has told me there are no workplace restrictions within the company on knife carry outside of the state law's legal knife carry requirements. I have that in writing.
2. I'm not using some slider razor blade instead.
3. I'll continue to take my LEGAL TO CARRY IN MY STATE EMERSON KNIFE to work until the company's guidelines say different.
4. Tough &^%$ to those who disagree.

It happens from time to time. Heck I had one person complain about my Kershaw Blur but wasn't concerned about the Sig p226. Some people just make no sense. Could have done with a little more tact in your response though.

If your least favorite coworker still makes noise about it, please pass on a message from me that the sliding razor blade is just as capable of severing her carotid artery as the knife you have:thumbup:.

I always think the knife fraidy cats are [in their mind at least] doing / maybe have done / or will do something for which a stabbing reprisal is a distinct possibility [again, (sorry) in their mind and not neccessarily in a realistic way] and that's why they can't abide any knife whatsoever.

At work -- ONLY carry an inoffensive looking blade. Dont be afraid to use it , but only use it to good purpose , then put it away. Dont have it out for any other reason. To someone else - having the knife out for no reason is trhe same as brandishing a knife. Dont make it anyone elses business by letting them know what you have.
Maybe have a talk with that whiner lady , let her know your not a threat , its a tool that you carry and use safely , take the responcibility seriously.. Dont brandish the knife. Get on with your workmate.
Dont goof off and play with your knife !Makes it look bad.

Knock off the "liberal" b.s.

This isn't a place to discuss politics per forum rules. Personally, I find your usage of the word offensive. It also makes you sound ignorant, and uneducated.

Not an advisable comment to make. It could easily be taken as a threat. And regardless what the law may be regarding which knives may or may not be carried, comments like the one above could be grounds for investigations. Comments intended to scare people like that are a bad idea.

Yes because that will help educate people that knives are tools and not weapons!

I still think you're better off pretending that she is a potential knife customer, and educating her on the value of a good knife, and explain how unsafe other types of cutting instruments can be. She'll either be a convert, or quickly lose interest and wander away.

And seriously people. Cut the liberal-bashing. You need to give that more thought--many liberals carry knives (and are on these forums). Many conservatives are afraid of knives.

Really? That's a new one for me. I can't think of any conservative that I personally know who is afraid of knives, or even guns.

Agreed.

As for the op, showing off your knife at the workplace to a coworker IMO is a dumb thing to do. For one your not at work, which will catch peoples eye. This is your coworkers business IMO. Second, being all up and mighty about it serves no one including yourself. I think the mature thing to do would talk to your boss and see if another edc blade could be used. No offense but a large tactical blade to cut open a box? Give me a break. Use the right tool for the job and you won't have any problems. It's not about your rights it's about not being a dope:P

They exist.
Socially and fiscally conservative does not equal understanding of guns and knives (or many other things for that matter).

True enough, I can't imagine someone unarmed going out of their way to disarm someone with their bare hands in order to use their knife/gun against others.

And again if anyone asks, I would have to ask them whether they seriously think I just spent $200 on a knife just so I can stab someone with it when I could get a small handgun for the price instead:thumbup:.

Because the knife would be alot more useful up until the stabbing occurs ?
Might not happen the same day you buy the knife or even that year.
Just because you plan to kill a person, does not mean you need to make it the sole center of your life, you know.

I don't doubt they exist. I simply said I don't personally know of any, meaning ANY. The question was not about understanding guns and knives; it was about being afraid of knives. I tossed the guns in there for good measure, as I really do not personally know a single conservative who is afraid of them.

I do.
Fear isn't a rational choice.
Perhaps a better divide would be rural versus urban dwellers...there seems to be alot more gun/knife fear in large urban centers, where they aren't seen being used constructively as often.
