Heya. The video no longer works, do you have any pictures?
I had been storing my knives in a glass cupboard, which I tried to seal by gluing window foam liners around all the openings. But it wasn't completely sealed, so I recently purchased a couple of Pelican like cases (Different brand, same design.), and was concerned about the foam reacting with the steel, which Bill pointed out could be a problem. But it sounds like his issue could have been caused by oils reacting with the foam. The cases came with the foam you can shape by plucking out sections. I've ordered some silica gel desiccant packs that I will put in the cases.
I originally planned to put in some calcium chloride desiccant, which I sowed some neat little bags for, but I realized that this isn't a viable solution since this type of desiccant won't retain the moisture it absorbs, it will dissolve, so it would have just made a big puddle. :O
