My Latest - Pics

Did you follow Hrisouls' instructions on "The complete baldesmith"? The handle seems most one on his style.

I have all three of his books and his video. That is where I primarily learned to make damascus and the patterns. I think the video is great, I watched it many times and about have it memorized.

So, you are correct. My daggers are very similar to Dr. Hrisoulas' work. Thanks for noticing.

Nice clean work on the tang too Laredo7mm. Where did you say you were getting your 15N20 and 1095?

Matt

I got my steel from Uddeholm. I got a pretty good deal on it. It came in coil form. The sales guy had a couple small drops from some bigger coils that he gave me at a discount. They usually sell the 15N20 at $6.00 per pound. They slit them to matching widths at no extra charge. I got the 1095 for $1.00 a pound and the 15N20 for $3.00 a pound. Here is their link:

Uddeholm

There is a guy that is on PT named Kelly (his nick is Octihunter) who also sells 15N20. If I am not mistaken, he sells 15N20 at $3.00 per pound including shipping.

I will try to find out his contact info if you want me to. Just let me know.

That would be great if you could. My 50# Mayer hammer is almost done and I'm itchen to try some damascus.

dave, would it make you feel any better if i told you that this was my 5th pattern welded blade and my sixth complete knife?

You're gonna make me cry! :( Actually I remember when you joined us and nobody could believe you... :D And that is pretty unbelieveable. If I wasn't seeing it with my own eyes I wouldn't believe it. I think you are on the fast track and will be well known in very short order. (Now your head's so big you won't be able to get down to your shop. -evil grin-)

Just patience I guess. Right?

Right. That's more important than any other skill we can have (IMHO anyway).

That's a beautiful blade and handle wrap, utterly classic. Thanks for sharing.

Dave
