After being cooped up in my apt and in the city for so long because of tests, Mardi Gras, and an ICU assignment, I decided the weather on Friday was too nice to miss. I'm still getting the hang of my new camera, so bare with me.

Here's the first fellow I met. I found this turtle plodding across the trail not too far in.

Not too far after I saw the turtle, I walked right up on this guy.

Musk Turtle and garter snake nice wee critters to find on a new camera walk, thanks for the warm looking pictures (back outside for more wood for the stove for me).

Now, what did you do with the Mardi Gras pictures? :D:D

Okay, some more pictures.

I saw several of these during my walk. Is this some kind of poo?

At the back of the trail where it makes a loop you can walk down to Bayou Cane. It always looked like great place for a gator to grab you because there's no bank whatsoever. I haven't fished it yet, but I see plenty of top water action.

On my way back, I ran into some wild pigs. All I was really concerned about was where their mommy was. Heard some noise in the brush to the left, so I thought that was where she was. I had gotten pretty close to them on the opposite side of the trail when I spooked the deer that had been making noise in the brush to the left. Crap. Of course, she was on my side of the trail right behind a log I had almost walked past. Figures. I crossed back over and she took off when she saw me. Not terribly big, maybe 150-175 pounds.

I also saw this and couldn't figure out if an animal had just rubbed a piece of fur off or if a bird had gotten a mouse or something.

When I was almost back to the trail head, I caught this guy slinking toward some water. A nice little water snake. Pretty lively too.

I thought the last picture looked pretty good.

I still call these little adventures "walks" because I can't get used to the idea of hiking when the ground is so flat.

Nice pics, i kayak bayou cane quite often and see deer smimming every now and then. I start seeing gators once you start getting close to the lake, maybe we can hook up one day and do a hike and some paddling, i have extra kayaks and would love to get some closeup pics of those hogs

That would be fantastic. I've done plenty of canoeing, but not much yaking. I think being so close to the water would make it pretty exiting around here. :)

It looks very much like this fur that I found yesterday which was from a rabbit, maybe one of those coyotes pulled the fur off before eating one ?
