My long lost knife! Thank You!

What a great story!!! Good on you, Jake and Sarah

Man, this place NEVER fails to put a smile on my face when I need one. Whether it's stories of stuff we do with knives (Carl, Dan, and others...), new projects coming up (Charlie, Mike, Derrick, and our beloved makers/modders), general knife knuttiness (errbody), or good old fashioned gestures of friendship (so many gestures!), this porch is the place to be.

Thank you all :thumbup::D

I may have mentioned a few times that my first knife was a Girl Scout Camper. ...

Well, look what showed up in my mailbox! No note, and I don't recognize the return address, so I suspect Shenanigans! Whoever sent this, thank you very much!
...
I'm feeling incredibly nostalgic, and I want to touch up the edge and carry it and open a root beer with the bottle opener, but I can't stop looking at it in the sun and smiling.

Thank you so much!
Congratulations, Rachel, on getting that "Wayback Machine" knife just out of the blue!

So the mysterious benefactor reveals himself! Thank you, Jake! (and co-conspirator Sarah) ;)
...
Major "props" for your generosity and sneakiness, Jake (and Sarah)!:D

...
Last night I drank a (hard) root beer, and put an edge on this beauty.

That's a fantastic photo, Rachel, showing off the smooth covers and the new edge! I hope it keeps you smiling in the sunshine for a long time!:thumbup:
(I've been noticing various hard root beers at the grocery store lately. How is that stuff? Can it be used for a root beer float (when I was a lad, we always called 'em "black cows")?)

Do you remember those hard candies shaped like little root beer barrels? Imagine, if you will, that chemically fake root beer flavor with a slight aftertaste of bitterness. It's disgusting. It's wonderful. I'm drinking one now. :D

Hard to tell if it's an alcohol or a sugar buzz.

...it crossed my mind that I recognized my knife from 45 years ago.

Don't all women stay in their 30's? My mom has been 34 for about 25 years now LOL.

How are the blade pulls on these knives? Do they make them softer on scout knives so that they're easy to use when kids get a hold of them?

Thanks for the info, Rachel. I certainly remember the little root beer barrel candies, but I have to say your description of the product didn't inspire me to rush right out and purchase some hard root beer!

I'm not sure what age a woman goes from lying about her age to bragging about it. A quote from my mom: "I'm 82 years old, I don't have time for this ________ !"

The pull is pretty light on the main blade. The can and bottle openers a bit harder, but I have no trouble opening them. (I cut a thin strip of leather and put it under the kick of the bottle opener to raise it a hair) Overall, it has better f&f than the Imperial ForrestMasters I have handled. I always have a hard time opening the tools on those.
