Thanks Meako! I've got #11 in my pocket and don't see myself switching out for another any time soon.
Thank you Glenn! That's a fitting family tribute, and a dang nice looking knife!
I agree, thank you Jeremy! What an awesome deal! Congrats, Carl, these knives look fantastic and are a unique memento for your family.
Thanks Jacob. I am lucky to have a wife talented in creating graphics. She's also good at keeping the fire roaring when we are cooking syrup! The knives and the packaging look awesome, the artwork used is perfect for getting people in the mood to eat a good breakfast lol. Maple syrup is such a huge part of the community around here that itโs hard to imagine people not knowing what it is haha.
Thanks Jeff. I have an uncle that I still need to visit to give him his knife. I'm sure he will be surprised and love it. He's a retired dairy farmer, and always keeps a knife in his pocket.Wonderfully done, your family must be exceedingly happy with the outcome!
Wow Ace, I wasn't aware of Vermontville. I know most of the states around the great lakes all have maple trees that are used for making syrup. Around here in PA, all the old time dairy farms in the area used to each make syrup for their families. A lot have slowly dwindled down though. There are maybe 20-30 syrup makers left in my county, where there used to be over 100 a few generations back.Oh my! Beautiful knives and a great family tradition. We "discovered" maple syrup on a trip to Vermont many years ago. We lived in Michigan for many years after that and were happy to discover that Michigan produces a fair amount of maple syrup. (Did you know there is a town named Vermontville in Michigan? They have an annual Maple Festival there.) We still pick up a supply of maple syrup whenever we go back to Michigan to visit family.
Thanks J! No real significance for maple syrup makers. The only correlation would be that my dad and uncles are notoriously hard on knives, so I had to give them something strong that they couldn't destroy too quickly! lolGreat story! I like that you are carrying on a family tradition and the fact that you are able to tap trees set out by your grandfather so many years ago is very cool.
I'm curious, does the selection of a sheepsfoot blade somehow tie into the syrup making process or just purely personal choice? Either way it looks like a fantastic knife. Well done, Sir.
Thanks Bruce, I agree! So incredibly cool, what a family legacy! OH
Thanks Dan, but sorry there is a 100,000 post minimum to qualify for purchase. Better get on it!OH MAN...
that's such a pretty knife with an amazing story.
Anyone would be lucky to have one.
... So I have a post in this thread and gold or above membership.
... so where's the order button?![]()
LOL Well, all the ones I sold are sitting in my office in boxes. So the only ones out in the world are ones I gave my siblings, dad, niece, daughter, etc. But it is entirely possible with them!!!Think one is on the bay!!
Kidding. Great looking knife and project. Kudos.
Quite true Alan. Even if I do another batch in the future, this one will forever mean the most as it was a labor of love, and I got the family together to give them out. I had the knives made made to use (got mine in my pocket right now) but so far most of the family intends to display them, not use them. Shows what it means to them I suppose.Always appreciated your posts and fine photos, but I doubt youโll ever show a more meaningful knife. Congratulations.
Thanks Tom. And YES, although my knife was the first to come out with this blade as it was my request, they had plenty more made along with it that will be coming out periodically.Great story and beautiful design. I hope they use that blade in a production run!
Nice SFO knife/celebration!!!I also decided to put in the long pull, as it just looks great on a sheepfoot blade, and had a hand in designing the swedge.
