Read the milestone sharpening thread (excellent by the way!) and I have a milestone to confess. This weekend I benched 300 lbs. (DRUG FREE) I am 6' 190 pounds. Just turned 32. I played ball in school and i got out of weights/working out for over 10 yrs. I got back into it and it took me a couple months to hit that mark. It's the most ive done and a 50lb increase since i started back up. I am happy with it. My workout tonight is gonna suck tho! DOH.

All in all this should make felling those trees easier, yes? :D

congrats, it must feel good.

today i just ran my best 5 kilometer time ever, barefoot on a hard course to boot. feels good

i went from barely being able to run 400 meters about 9 months ago to running around a 6 minute mile now. today i hit 22:30 for a 5K...if i didn't die on the last mile i could come in under 20:00 easily.

keep pushing it, you have alot of progress ahead of you i'm sure...

Congratulations both! It's great hitting those milestones.

Mine? At the moment I'm trying to get back to the weight I was 12 years ago, when I trained at the gym 3 times a day, 6 days a week (seriously - I'm a senior instructor) and could literally run up mountains (I did up Ben Nevis). I think I was about 180-200 lbs, quite a lot for 5'8 but large build and solid muscle and bone. I never went off weight really, just feeling.

At the moment I couldn't bench anywhere near 300 or run 5km, never mind the time. So well done folks!

Well done bro that's a good lift for sure !!!

It gets a lot harder to recover from workouts and stay injury free once you creep over that 30 yr old age mark eh !!!!!:o

Man you heavy benchers are awesome. I began lifting for the first time in my life last month and I'm benching 125. Booooo. I am happy to say I've lost 61 lbs though.
My buddy is a competition lifter and at 189 lbs has a record lift of 410.

Congrats on an AWESOME lift!!

I believe you reach your peak strength in your 30's

I think you have a ways to go before you hit your downward slope

At the risk of sounding like a gym rat, welcome to the 300 lb. club! I remember when I put it up for the first time and it was awesome! The next big step for you is 3 45lb plates on each side. 315 just looks awesome when you press it. I've been focusing on running more lately but still throw on some weight from time to time.

Congrats buddy and keep pushing it up. Remember your form an press slowly!

Awesome!

Thanks guys! I honestly was gonna go for the 315, but the 300 was it. And dont worry, it was a SLOW press :D

Not as sore today as i thought i would be! there is always tomorrow tho :(

Are there places online that detail out proper form?

I'm convinced I'm using WAY too much arm, and not enough chest in my presses. It seems odd to me that I bench press 125, but curl 80. After benching, my arms are sore and my chest feels like I didn't do anything. I think my form sucks. I'm not going to ask any of the monsters at the gym because their biceps are the size of my thighs. :)

I hear ya bout the "no-necks" :D . I generally place my grip just on the serrated part. Grab the bar and measure a thumb length. Generally puts it where it needs to be for me. It varies tho. k_estella may be of more help than me. Maybe you should widen your grip a little. It is hard for me to diagnose w/out seeing. Try this http://musclesurf.com/benchpress.html

Hmm yes indeed. First things first, my feet don't even need to touch the floor when I bench press. I could straighten my legs if I wanted to.

Thanks! I'll read through this, and also try to find the "powerlifting technique" that they referenced.

Okay, after reading this I went this morning and maxed my bench.

245#...once.

Not bad for a 41 year old eh?...

New goal before the end of the year crack that 300 mark.

Nice going theedge13 you're giving the rest of us motivation.
