I currently have the CF BG-42 and the Foliage Green CPM D2 Millies, OK! I love VG-10 so how about a VG-10 Blade and Tan colored G10 Scales.

What do you think?

The Military is currently made in Golden, Colorado. If they made a VG-10 one they'd probably have to do it in Seki-City, Japan. I too prefer VG-10, but it doesn't seem awfully likely. On the other hand, the S30V Millie has given me no trouble sharpening it.

i was a little late at the feast, so i only have the military models in current production (S30V, CPMD2, BG42) but i will definitely buy any future models, regardless the steel used or colour of the handle

I agree, I too will buy any version they put out, I had an older S30V version but gave it to a soldier when I left my last unit, so I need to pick up a new S30V to round out the Millies, I will take any version as long as the size, weight and blade shape are the same.

While we're on the subject. We're planning an upgrade on the Military. We know that the customers would like an ambi slip, a slightly smaller lock release well, maybe a deeper or more defined finger choil.

We know to keep it light and strong.

We'll more than likely experiment with some new lock (ball-cage or stop-lock).

What about the tip? We finally had to change the tip of our Endura's and Delica's due to tip breakage. Some complain about the tip on the Military being too fine. Whatchathink?

Ambi clip (with tip-up option), definitely. A more defined finger choil would also be good. Don't know anything about the stop-lock, but I realy like the caged ball on my P'kal.

As far as the tip, I'm not sure. It seems like the splinter picker tip is a defining characteristic of the Millie. The E4/D4 tip would definitely be too blunt. Maybe you could come up with something in between?

As I posted on the other forum, any chance of a left-handed run of the current Millie to tide us southpaws over until the new one comes out?

For me, as long as the tip still has a good point on it, I am curious to see how you could strengthen the tip without a major blade shape change. If the lock will be stronger but still keep that lite, flat millie feel in your pocket is fine with me. As far as the G10 slabs go, I have posted this in the past, A choice between colors would be great! Black, Foliage Green, Hunter Green, Brown, Tan, would all look good on the Millie. I love the Foliage green on my D2 version.

FYI, I love spyderco knives and have plans on many more purchases of spyderco products in the future.

I would want to see CPM3V used in the Spyderco Military.
This steel has good edge holding and is also very tough, which would especially benefit the sleek tip of the Military.
Jerry Hossom said that when etched with some special fluid rust is almost negligable.

Fehrman uses 3V on their knives with good results, as is Kershaw in their Zero Tolerance 0100 Fixed blade.

Next to this, in the future i would also be very interested in a joint venture between Spyderco and Diamond Blade.
And i'm not the only one, am i Sal ?
:D

I don't want to see the tip change at all. It's perfect. Gotta leave at least some splinter-picker tips for us ELU's.

Edit: A thought just occurred to me -- those who wish to have a less fine tip can just pry with them. Then after that they have more durable tips and we who like our points can keep them. :D

Sal, the new locks sound great, but please keep the splinter picker tip. I love the pointy tip on mine. It is great for detail work or stabbing into soft to medium material to start a cut. I've had a an Endura reground to mimic the blade shape of the Military and had the tip of my R2 flattened out to get that really pointy tip that I like, which the Military comes with from the factory. As long as people treat the Military as the cutting tool it is instead of a prybar everything will be just fine. Ergonomic wise a slightly deeper choil would be nice, but in use with and without gloves it is hard for my hands to complain about the feel of the knife as it is.

that needlelike tip made me hesitate a lot before actually buying my first millie; the way i see it now is that tip is one of the features that made the military what it is, which is an icon in the knife world
i am also more than happy with the liner lock, but if you could build the thing with other lock types but keep it as slim as it is now, by all means, proceed
anyway, the military has become my favourite folder; thanks Sal and all the wonderful people at Spyderco for making me work harder, so i can earn more, so i can buy more millies

The tip isn't an issue for me. It gets some complaints from other folks, but I don't see a need to adjust it. I wouldn't be totally opposed to keeping the tip thick like on some striders, but I wouldn't want the entire blade thicker. I choose the width of the current flat grind over a thicker version.

I think the people complaining about the "weak tip" need to discover those marvelous new inventions, the screwdriver and the crowbar. On the other hand, putting the reinforced tip like the E4/D4 on the Military would probably save me some money, since I wouldn't need to buy any more of them.

A ball lock would be good, if it really is stronger.

Can we assume the para-military will be updated as well?

I like it the way it is, but how a frame-lock version? Or even a liner lock 0.010" thicker would be cool.
But it works awesome the way it is too. I'd like to see the current design continued, with other versions as extra choices.

I wouldn't mind keeping a few fine knife tips in line up so that people who know how to use knives can still enjoy that feature. Too me engineering out the fine tip is like stopping the production of spandex because some people can't understand that they shouldn't wear it.

a ball/cage lock military would be cool, that would mean it could be inertia opened effectively like the dallara drop point.
