My Military wishes!

I wouldn't mind keeping a few fine knife tips in line up so that people who know how to use knives can still enjoy that feature. Too me engineering out the fine tip is like stopping the production of spandex because some people can't understand that they shouldn't wear it.

:D Well said!

Please keep the tip the same. Its one of the reasons I love the Mili so much. Light, and strong would be a must. And.....tan, or the same G-10 color your using on the D2 Milis would be fine with me. I like SE better. So I don't have the D2s yet. (I'd like a SE D2 Mili ;))

Also, I like tip up carry better than tip down.

A deeper choil might be nice, but I have no problems with it now. I'd rather have a Liner lock than a ball lock. And I'd rather have a Comp lock than a Liner lock.

It would still be nice a strong, and very light. I love pressing in the comp lock and swinging the blade out.........cut...press the comp lock down swing again...closed and back in yer' pocket (axis lock like action). :D

So.......Comp locked, colored G-10, flat ground, same tip shape, tip up carry option. And............full SE option as well! :D

Thanks for listening to us.

Edited to add: a wire clip like the Caly 3 would be awesome!

I think a slightly less pointy tip would be OK as long as it is the same thickness so it still cuts like a scalpel.

I have been dreaming of a Waved backlock FRN Military – a Waved flat ground VG10 Military blade with a Endura 4 handle!

I really like the liner lock on the Millie. People may be apprehensive about it but the liner lock is excellent and there is no reason not to trust it. I do like the idea of a stop-lock or comp-lock Military, so long as it is a supplemental version and not a direct replacement. After all, if liner locks are the bread and butter of many OTHER companies, Spyderco should at least make one or two, especially since IMO Spyderco's liner locks are amongst the best.

I've yet to break a tip on any of my millies. I think it should be changed only if it is a problem costing Spyderco sales, or time & money in warranty work. I like it as is. Joe

Keep the tip the same.
If the Stop lock is practical enough use it, otherwise the ball lock is a sure bet.
Personally I would like the handle to fill my grip a little more, other than that all I can say is CPM M-4!

(Really, that steel has been well known for a while now. It's one of the best steel types out there and we need a good folder to use it.)

A friend of mine recently bought a millie, and from handling his, here are my suggestions:

*Ergos - The knife just doesn't feel quite right in my hands. See, I've got big hands. I've got hands that make it difficult for me to open a delica one-handed. I've got hands that love my Manix EDC, but with the millie, the curvature on the blade-side of the handle just isn't enough to really wrap my fingers around it. I've never handled a knife with better ergos than the Manix. If the millie had that kind of handle shape, then I'd start thinking seriously about it.

*Clip - tip up option, please.

*Tip - keep it nice and super pointy.

*Lock - no linerlock. I've dealt with shoddy linerlocks in the past, and while everything I've seen says that the liner on the millie is one of the best made by anyone, it still doesn't strike me quite right. There's something about the solid sound and feel of lockbacks/ball locks/(and I presume) compression locks that just feels safe to me. From what I've heard about their design and manufacture, I think that a compression lock would be the best of all worlds in terms of keeping the millie to a minimum of parts and a maximum of safety.

Really, that's pretty much it.

I have no problem with the liner lock, I like the ability to easily open / close the knife one handed.

But I must say that a compression lock same as para military would be too hard to resist.

As much as I like the liner lock I can't help but think that the compression is just that little bit more secure. Not that I have had a liner lock fail on me at all.

Well, I won't be much help Sal as I like the Millie just as is, blade as is. Kinda like the idea of a sand or tan G-10. For a lock, if you feel the need to change it, could go for a comp lock or see what the hub-bub is regarding a stop lock.

While we're on the subject. We're planning an upgrade on the Military. We know that the customers would like an ambi slip, a slightly smaller lock release well, maybe a deeper or more defined finger choil.

We know to keep it light and strong.

We'll more than likely experiment with some new lock (ball-cage or stop-lock).

What about the tip? We finally had to change the tip of our Endura's and Delica's due to tip breakage. Some complain about the tip on the Military being too fine. Whatchathink?

sal

Current tip is fine

I have the BG42 CF, and I consider it perfect.

If you wanta mess with the design, go ahead

I only ask, how can you perfect perfection?

Other that a set of tan scales, I can't think of anything that needs to be changed on the Millie. Please don't change the tip, the point is one of the many things that I love about this knife.

It's good to see that Tan is like by more than just myself, I think it would look great, especially with the Black Pocket clip, Contrast in colors is the key to making a knife stand out.

I like that idea.

Another idea: If you did not want a knife to stand out, a tan knife with a tan clip would be good with a pair of khaki pants.

frame lock, for sure. steel?.... no way you can beat BG-42. CF or G-10? makes no difference. FERN? NO WAY!!! maybe thicker slabs of CF or G-10. just a bit.
tip is FINE!!! would go back to the old texturing above the hole (hurts less)

It seems to me that the Military is to Spyderco, as the 110 is to Buck. Both are well proven designs that continue to sell as is. Buck have learned not to mess with a good thing and their 'bread & butter' 110 has stayed the same for many years now. I can't help but question whether or not any substantive changes to the Military would be for the best. Play with steel types and scale colors, but be careful not to 'fix it if it ain't broke'.
