My Mountain

Hey 230, are you pp with Lightroom?
I think the second image can really pop with a few minor adjustments,

If you are using LR, open the second image exactly as you have it posted and throw the following recipe at it in the develop module:

Exposure@ - 0.19; Recovery @ 19; Blacks @ 5; Contrast +20
In the tone curve, Highlights +2; Lights +10; Darks +7; Shadows -2

With a little lum & color noise reduction, both @ 20,,

It really looks good on the monitor,,the sky pops, as do the shadows on the face of the mountain and the fence in the foreground,

Great image!!, Thanks for sharing with us

No lightroom, using photoshop. I'm not GREAT with it, but i'm learning.

Is lightroom worth getting?

they are both incredible but I also prefer the 2nd.

Good luck:thumbup:

I like these shots, but easily prefer the second. Without looking to go overboard on critiquing as I'm no expert on photography (everybody has their own style, too ). I will say that both images draw attention to the foreground where nothing is happening. May I suggest trying to capture the mountain near sunset or sunrise when there might be good color in the sky and more light on the mountain than where the image is taken? The fences might be more 'subdued" and the mountian should 'pop'. Just a thought. :)

I prefer the Non HDR shot, not to be all artsy, but I think the composition is better with the mountain not being directly in the center and the color seems to be more balanced. The beauty is there in both, but I think it needs the infi of your choice stuck in the fence post though, just a thought...

LOL - Sent you a PM but guess I need to say it here since I never received a reply -

Composition - Everything else looks good:thumbup::cool:

Oh Yea - the second word for today is RESPECT - Dont' ask if you don't want to acknowledge.

Cheers!

I went out today (not far... feeling lazy) to try HDR for the second time. So I could look at your pics and maybe have a better feel for the HDR ones. I went with crazy on this one since that seems to be your style with HDR. Still not sure about HDR. I look at every picture differently now though. I like Exposure Fusion. HDR is a lot of fun to play with but at the end I feel like I just did hallucinogens :D

Kev, that looks sick. I love the crazy look you can get from HDR. It's VERY easy to overcook it and blow the whole picture. Usually it'll happen in the background too.

I like the way these three came out though.

Cool shots Mike. I think I am going to take the exposures from the tractor pic and try them black and white and see what HDR and Exposure Fusion will do with that. Even if u don't use the HDR u still have a properly exposed pic in the end.

I would not hang that pic on anyone's wall but it was a good subject for HDR. The side in the shade (facing you) would have lost all shadow detail without combining the exposures. A proper exposure looked crappy. I am working all weekend and week but when I get back to it I will post or email u the results.

I've never even thought to convert HDR to BW. Hope you don't mind, really wanted to see what your tractor looked like. used cs3 and channel mixer to convert it.

YOWZA!!!!!

I can't decide between the two. . . .

Use 'em both!!!! :D

Killer cool pics!!!!

Jerry :D

Don't mind at all. That looks cool. I am thinking of changing the raw files to black and white and then trying it out again. Sometimes the conversions after the fact look different then initial changes.

Thanks for doing that! I get to see it at work :)
