Just curious how his parents feel about this purchase? Nothing wrong at his age setting goals for things you want and save up for them, many lessons can be learned. If something should happened to it such as theft or breakage as unfortunate as it may be, it still is a life lessened learned at a young age. Like the old saying " life hands you the test first and the lesson after"
I still have a shotgun I saved up for when I was 14, it took me a whole summer working on our family farm. Did I loan it out, no. Did I leave,it unlocked in a vehicle, no. So,it taught me how hard it was to get what I really wanted and I therefore took very good, care of it.
Man, how times change. I was almost 15 when I bought a pocketknife with my own money, a Victorinox Spartan. Got a Gerber LST as a gift when I was 16 and I thought it was the greatest thing. A Sebenza at 13? Never in my wildest dreams. In my world, we had to work for whatever we wanted to purchase. Gifts were modest at best. Must be nice.
Not trying to derail the thread here, but how old are you?
Not to start a tiff but even the cheap knives these days are pretty good quality!hard work pays off, save up a little more and buy a knife that'll last a lifetime, instead of buying a bunch of cheap knives that'll break within the first few months of having it. once he gets it, tell him to take extra good care of it, and it'll last him a lifetime, and it should! CRK knives are top notch. i wish him best of luck!
If it's OK with the family and the parents most of all to help , I'm in!
Sounds like he's a pretty hardworking kid... I'm with cchu518 (I always call you Cthulhu in my head) I'd like to chip in a few bucks too. I can't afford much but I'll help out too.
I can Paypal you a bit of cash. It really won't make a dent to be honest, but a couple good members on here have been good to me this holiday season, I should pay it forward.
i agree! its just that my definition of cheap is poor quality. they're are tons of inexpensive knives that are super good quality! Not to start a tiff but even the cheap knives these days are pretty good quality!
Alright guys. I contacted his parents about the donations and they said it would be better for him to get the money on his own. I'm very glad that there are people who want to help a total stranger, but again, his parents want him to earn the cash. Thanks to everyone who wanted to donate and help him out.
I'll update the thread if anything changes.
Can't really argue with that, and I'm sure he's going to earn his way to a Sebenza fairly soon.
I think it's great that he has the patience to save up for a sebenza. Just curious, what kind is he trying to get? New? Used? Insingo/Tanto/Clip point? How much longer is he saving for? That's must be torture to see so many other great offerings that become attainable and wait for just one knife (not criticizing of course, just empathizing - every time I save up for a $400 knife, I start getting crazy thoughts about everything else I could get.)
I believe he wants the large Carbon Fiber Insingo from KnifeArt.
