My New 0770 CF is Here!

Discovered a minor issue with my 0770cf...after using it as my edc over my 350 for almost a week, I cut my hand at the base of my thumb while reaching into my pocket to get it out...the space between the scales is enough for that part of my hand to slip between the scales and get nicked by the tip...after this happend, I took the tip of my index finger and ran it across it and sure enough I can feel the tip...

I think it has more to do with the blade design then anything...

Thoughts?

Pretty common on some slipjoints. The fix for those is to sand down the kick a little. For modern knives you just need to find the part of the blade that hits the pin which stops the blade from hitting the back spacer and sand a little off the blade where they touch. I do mean a little, just using a medium grip sharpmaker rod works great.

Or you can get KAI to look at it, I'm sure they'll take care of you.

Interesting, thanks for the info...

The bolded above is the definition of "kick" with regard to pocket knives, except that it is usually not part of the "blade" but part of the ricasso or tang. Modern folders with a hidden or "internal" stop-pin (the tang features a cut-out race allowing the blade to pivot around the stop-pin while hiding it from external view) usually incorporate the "kick" within the same cut-out, relying on the stop-pin for preventing over-closing as well.

On the ZT 0770, the "kick" is milled into the underside of the flipper.

^I simplified for a layman. But a picture is worth a thousand words (which will hopefully get around the discussion of tang-ricasso transition on folding knives...)

 Could have included a line pointing to the choil as well (just north of the kick at the plunge-line) as soooo many folk mis-use that term. A thorough knowledge of knife-anatomy is beneficial for any enthusiast
