My new Caly3

I'm pretty sure the Caly 3 will be next for me. If not, it is on the top of my Christmas list. It's not too early to start planning, right?

It is never too early to make Christmas list or get Caly3 :)
Sometimes can be too late: g10/VG10 variant is discontinued :(

Well I have a Techno, Sage II, and Buck TNT on the table next to my chair here. The Caly3 is still in my pocket.

I thought I found a great knife in the Native 5 and I did, but I found an even
better knife in the Caly 3- lighter and smoother operation. It's been so hard
to rotate it out of my edc...and give the other knives a slice.

I love my caly3. I find the 3.5 to be quite a different beast which requires more care when wielding so as not to jab myself with the long, pointy tip. The cheaper VG10 version would be nice to still have to get people for gifts -- delica & endura don't have the looks of calypso.

I love my Caly3. It is one of my two constant companions now (my other is a Manbug G-10). It has the same handle dimensions as the sleek Kershaw Leek. It has steel liners and has that big pivot pin. That big pin not only looks good, but gives an impression of strength. The carbon fiber is understated. Over all, it looks like it would go well at a black tie function or fairly hard hunting and camping chores. This is one good looking and practical knife.

2-1/2 years ago, I got my first "real knife." It was the Caly 3. About a week ago, I snagged a Caly 3 Damascus. Between those two knives, I've managed to collect about 50 other Spydies. :D

The Caly 3 is the quintessential Spydie.

+1
IMHO Caly family is very special. They are not just great cutter, they also look good. I really appreciate Spyderco making Damascus Bolstered Caly3. I hope that this run will be sold out fast and Spyderco would make at least one more with bone, wood, or stag.

Okay, I forced myself to swap the Caly3 out for the Techno. It hasn't gotten any carry time yet and I need to give it a real try other than just playing with it while watching TV.

OK... here's mine along with my very first Spyderco knife (the Caly 3).

Unreal! Good job capturing the Damascus lines. I have difficulty figuring out the round-ness of the handle though.

The 420-J sure does scratch easy, doesn't it? Non-knife-people may be impressed by the 'hamon' look to the blade but I'm sure most of us would prefer a full slab of the good stuff. Come on, Moki, upgrade your machinery already! But I'm not complaining - there are still many more knives that I desire than knives I can buy.

The Caly 3 is my favorite. By far. The only areas in which I'd like to see improvement: J2 is a good laminate, but scratches too easily; and the choil feels a little shallow.

Having owned an older G10 UKPK, which has a deeper choil, I much prefer it's Ergos over the Caly. The Caly is still my fav, but I do have a UKPK collection building up, now--it's like a Caly with different flavors. :)

Thanks. Yeah... the handle and CF of the Damascus version reminds me of the handle on my CF Kopa:

That Caly3 is a fantastic knife for pocket carry. It has the same handle length has a Kershaw Leek and the same thickness. That means it carries well. The Carbon Fiber was, at first, not as nice as something more polished for dress carry. But, after review, it is a very handsome knife for dress carry and conversation. Also, the flat carbon fiber model has a deep carry. Clipped under a belt and over the waistband, it disappears. I love mine and will never trade it.

How is the quality on the Caly 3 CF? I saw somewhere that the CF scales were sharp or something.

I view the Caly 3 & 3.5 as the refinement of the Delica and Endura, which are amazing in their own right. Sleek in the pocket and feels like an extension of your hand in use. There are many knives out there with qualities such as great design, premium materials, excellent craftsmanship, high performance and attention getting looks but not many possess them all like the Caly. It is a great series and I look forward to future versions of it. I carried a Caly 3 ZDP yesterday and plan on taking a Super Blue 3.5 manana.
