Good afternoon y'all,
This morning, the friendly UPS guy dropped off a package from Amazon, and inside was a Spyderco Tenacious.
Although I had seen one the other day and liked it, for some reason I wasn't as impressed with the one that came today. However, that feeling was only to last for about an hour, after which I had gotten it sufficiently broken in so I could flick the blade open, if not all the way, at least a good part of the way.
So I decided to take it apart and chamfer the hole used for the detent on the blade that the liner lock ball bearing sits in when the knife is closed.
Got 'er done. Flicks open nicely now.
While the knife was apart, I got the bright idea of using my Worksharp knife sharpener to round off the top of the blade, and did so, polished it up, and put 'er back together.
However, I couldn't leave good enough alone, and decided to make the knife into a bonafide cigar cutter. Although the blade was a combo -- plain plus serrated, I ground those serrations away, and cut up into the blade to make a deeper area for a cigar to sit in before cutting the cap off.
Reprofiled the edge, and it's wicked sharp now. Along the whole length of the blade. (Used the Worksharp knife sharpener for all this.)
Here are some pics. (After posting this, I'm off to a cigar store to enjoy a good one...) Feel free to tell me I just destroyed a very nice Spydie, if you wish... However, I like it better now than when I got it.
Cheers!
