My new Military

The painful wait is over, and I am wondering how and why I waited so long to get a military. In the years past, I was always curious about the military but never pulled the trigger on one. I was perfectly content with my Paramilitary then my Paramilitary 2, and every other knife in between. Somehow over the last few months I found myself wanting one more and more.

Over the last few years, I have been pretty fond of the compression lock and frame lock, and less likely to purchase a liner lock. For some reason, I had come under the impression that they were weaker and unreliable, and just plain boring compared to the others. It is funny how I had come to be that way since I carried numerous liner lock knives for many years. Heck, my very first "real" knife was an Emerson with a liner lock (still have it).

Anyhow moving to present day, I am really loving this thing so far. I have only been able to play around with it for a few hours and not really give it any use other than opening mail, and some opening and closing while at home tonight.

Here are a few pictures from today.

First in hand shot. I could not believe how large this knife actually is!!

Here it is next to my Delica 4 that has been my primary EDC for the last few weeks.

Perfect centering.

Super early Lockup. It is very solid with no blade play.

This blade is awesome.

I have fairly large hands, and this thing fills them out perfect

One last pic from a few minutes ago.

So my first impressions of this knife are really great.

I cannot believe how stout this knife is. The blade is way thicker than I had imagined it to be also. I know there were a few people that had said the knife was so light that you would not notice it even while wearing something like gym shorts. Well they were right. Its kind of crazy to say that a knife of this size really does just disappear into the pocket. Even as I sit here and type this up, it is sitting clipped to my right pocket barely showing a sign of existence.

This is the second time ordering from the spydercostore.com and I must say they shipped both times very quickly. One weird thing about this purchase was that the military came in a spyderco box with no letter. Not really a big deal since It really does nothing other than provide something extra in the event of a sale. Just thought that was weird.

Even though they are a reputable dealer I still checked the knife out for anything that seemed to be fake against what I have seen on here and in pictures, and from what I can see it seems perfectly legit.

Not I really need to get some serious pocket time in. I cannot wait to actually use this baby!!

Thanks to everyone that helped me decide on getting one and in this configuration.

I will follow up with a formal review after I get some time in with it.

Thanks guys

Told ya! Congrats and enjoy it...

Congrats. You can expect the lock to stay right there it is for the years to come.

It really is a great blade. I have yet to really pull it out in front I the sheeple in fear that they will think I have a machete. Haha.

It carries soooo easy!!

Yeah, I'm usually pretty discreet with my knives but, for the reasons you mentioned, I can sometimes forget how big the millie is. I have to continually remind myself when in a crowded place that this is indeed a large knife that might not exactly be "sheeple friendly".

I was visiting some friends and they needed a package opened. I pulled out a Stretch and the reaction was, "Whoa, that is a big knife!" My response with an evil grin was, "Nope, this is a medium knife."
The military makes the Para and Stretch look kind of stubby.

Glad you finally got it! It really is a great knife. My poor PM2 never see's any action anymore.

Haha, we were installing an antenna in a local high school for a radio "jamboree on the air" for a a group of boy scouts and girl scouts. I needed to cut a line and without thinking, whipped out my M390 Military. I was a bit suprised since I thought I was packing a PM2...

Yep, I just got one this past week as well. It makes 6 spydies I've bought in the last 3 months.

My Orange Military that I have had for four years still locks early like that....hundreds of openings later. I need to get a new Millie though since the Orange is a sprint and still in near mint condition and has fallen out of rotation.

Thanks man! That's great to know.

I'm pretty cautious around certain people that are scare of everything but a butter knife.

It seriously disappears in the pocket. I am literally surprised by how large it is everytime I get it out.

It's an addiction. Haha

That's great to hear. I'm already trying to figure out how I can get a frame lock version.

I just got my first militarty a few weeks ago I was unsure at first about the handle size and the tip down carry but the more I use it the more I like it. It really does disappear in your pocket!

I've got the regular ti version. Love that knife! Oozes quality!

Awesome. Post up a pic!

I agree it doesn't take up that much real estate in the pocket.

That's what I want!!! I love Ti knives!! Always wanted a sebenza, now I desperately need a Ti military. Haha. I need to stay off the forum for a little while haha

Try pairing your Millie with a Techno for a more sheeple friendly alternate where appropriate...I do frequently, and the Techno fits perfect in my jeans watch pocket directly above my Millie.

It's a classic, and for good reason. The design is just close to perfection, all it needs is a tip-up conversion and it IS perfect. I own two, and they're probably my most-carried folders. How such a simple blade can do so many things so well. A testament to Sal's genius.

I picked up an orange Military years ago and it has sat around until the occasional time I play with it. Though recently I tried a similarly large knife, an Emerson CQC-8, I can safely say I'd rather have the Military any day. The Military is huge and light, plus thin. Easy to carry for sure. The lock works perfectly and everything is solid.

Great knife all around. Only thing I'd probably change is clip mounting points and shortening the handle. Much more handle than needed.

Nice knife! The military is one of those few knives that is larger in person than what it seems to be in pictures online. For me, it is usually the other way around! I wish Spyderco would come out with a fully serrated version again.
