My new Military

Hard to follow Sal Glesser on a post about Spydercos (!) but I wanted to like the Military..I went to a store to buy one once I was SO convinced I wanted one. On arrival I held it and opened and closed it...in the end I decided my Enduras were the biggest folding knives I personally needed, and didn't buy it. It IS a landmark piece in the Spyderco line however.

I felt the same way for years. Then a couple of years ago I was visiting the SFO and fell in love with the orange version. After handling and carrying it for a bit my Enduras feel too small. Now I have added a TI and a brown with Carpenter steel. I was going to decide which I preferred and sell the others but that's not gonna happen. Now I'm thinking about a standard black version for my toolbox.

titanium frame lock military is the way if you can pony up. about twice the cost of a regular millie. but on the same level as a bunch of semi custom/custom knives.

The only drawback to the TI is its weight compared to the G10. One of the joys of the Mili is its light weight for it's size (G10-4.7 oz, fluted TI-5.1 oz, TI-5.8 oz). The fluted is lighter but is much more expensive if you can find one.

That is a nice knife. I like the feel of the Millie in my big thick hand. The only thing I would change is if they come out with a new edition they put a compression lock in it. I actually like the knife better than the PM2 except for the lock. I have been seriously toying with the idea of getting one, but I do not know what I would do with it other than play with it around the house.

Funny, my first Military was a Fluted Titanium. When I bought a G10 used, I picked it up and went pale. OMG it's fake, raced through my mind. It was so much lighter, it was shocking. I spent two days with a magnifying glass making myself feel better with authenticity. LOL

Military is by far my favorite Spyderco for all the reasons listed. I am up to 8 different versions. Love them all - they are exceptional knives.

The techno is a very nice knife and very well built. The ergos are not for everyone though. I would suggest handling before you buy. The sage 2 on the other hand...can't remember ever hearing anyone say that one wasn't comfortable. I actually prefer the ti millie to both of them.

Hi Gizler,

Thanx for the comments and pics. Glad you like the piece. The Military has been refined and evolved for almost 20 years. We like to think of it as a "nice tool".

Thank you Mr. Glesser for making such great knives! I really love every one that I have ever owned. I just recently sold my original Endura that I bought back in the mid 90's and totally regret it.

This military is by far my favorite folder in the spyderco lineup. Feels great in the hand, slices like no other, and stands up to hard use. Can't ask for more than that!

Only problem is now I'm looking for ways to purchase a TI version. Haha.

Congrats! I have carried a G-10 Millie for over 14 years now... and it still functions perfectly... I own a lot of knives... but none can seem to get the military out of my pocket (for more than a day)

The Spyderco Military and Paramililtary are, in my opinion, the best value for EDC...

get the titanium and don't put any lanyard on it. also better to get the plain instead of the fluted. i swear, the ti millie is the only folder acceptable for kitchen/barbecue pit use (discounting the sebie and other customs.) no gunk to collect in the lock bar area, unlike a liner lock; gunk washes off bead blasted titanium easier than g-10, FRN, or CF; handle design is well at home in one's kitchen; blade big enough for slicing, short chops, even carving a leg or lamb or ham.

try it the next time you slice beef stroganoff. ;)
