My new Strider SNG......Interesting.

So I got my new Strider SNG delivered today and overall, I like the knife. But, I know this will piss some off, but there is no way in hell that this is a $400 knife. I would say more like $150 and that is being generous. Take my ZT 0550 Gen 3. Made in the US and has similar fit, but a nicer overall finish. Strider must make a huge profit margin on these. I mean, they can't even include a box....just a baggy in bubble wrap. Now my CRK 25 is easily a $400 knife and imho, at the build and pricepoint between the two, the SNG being $400.....The CRK 25 should cost $800-$900.

Now for what I like. None of the complaints I have read about SNG's or Striders in general appear on my knife. Blade is centered, lock, while a tiny sticky is still easy to use and actually feels like my Spyderco Techno when I first got that. And the Techno broke in like butter. Lockup is early, even though I prefer a later one. Stonewash is really nice and the ergonomics are fantastic.

Now, I plan to keep the SNG, because it screams to be used. In fact....to test it out, I put it in my gun safe and when I shut the door....It started screaming like a little girl who just found out Justin Beiber died. It did not want to be there.

Anyhow as Ankerson said....(Not an exact quote), "No pictures, then you don't own it". :D

So here it is next to my CRK

Edit:

I feel I was a bit harsh on my initial impressions of the SNG. I feel that there is no other knife on the market like the Strider line, just as with CRK. I feel that the knife is worth $400+ if you like the design and want a Strider, since that is the price of admission. No other knife is a Strider, but a Strider. Some knives might be better built, finished, have fancy boxes, paperwork etc, but they are not Striders. They may perform as good as a Strider, but they are not a Strider.

Anyhow, I guess my best endorsement is, would I buy another Strider.....yes. No question. But I got to get a Sebenza 21 first..... :D

I also want to apologize for being a dick in some of my replies and hijacking my own thread. So if you are reading this for the first time.....just ignore my asshole posts.

Nice. :D

Yeah well you put that up against your CRK and it will look and feel like a $150 knife, but then most others will also by comparison. :D

That said now that I have my Sebenza 25 I doubt I will be buying anymore Striders myself. ;)

I am head over heels in love with the look of the SnG. I've never wanted to love a knife more. It makes me stupid and irrational.

...and then the reviews bring me back to earth for awhile.

I youtube stalk those like a man possessed, and haven't been able to bring myself to pull the trigger.

/sigh

Keep the Strider!

If you carry it you can claim you used to be an operator, just like Mick ;)

Well.....I just got the 25 a couple weeks ago as a gift from my wife. I was actually getting ready to pop for one anyway. I was really going between a CRK 21 and a Strider this time around to see the deal with the famous 21 and the epic Strider :D. I like my 25 so much, I figured I want to try a Strider. Well.....So here I am.

Yeah, the CRK 25 is an brilliant knife in its tight tolerances and simplicity.

It will grow on you, use it for a while. For the most part, I agree with you tho

IN before the Emerson haters too :D

Gosh, Jim, did you put your S30V Millie in the safe?

Trust me...I read all the bad reviews and YouTube vids and still popped for one. I was surprised it was not a dog as many said it would.

As much as I said about my perceived value of the SNG, I do not regret buying it. I mean design wise, it is fantastic...As a working knife, it fits my hand perfectly. I recommend you get one, I mean the resale is very good if you do not like it.

And I will be honest. I have a few knives I had planned to sell if I decided to keep the Strider. One of them is my ZT 0550. At this point, I am probably keeping the Strider and the ZT is off to the exchange soon.

I know you're joking, but Emerson at least charges a reasonable price for their production models. Most are around $200. Yeah they are 154CM linerlocks, but considering you're paying for a name as well, it seems reasonable to me.

I've avoided Strider for a reason, and probably will continue to. I recently got in to Hinderers and they definitely feel like they are worth the typical going prices (high 400s-500s), for a "hard use knife" the fit and finish is pretty good. And of course, CRK is always a win.

LOL:p

I was excited when I first bought my Strider SNG, but I wasn't wowed. I own a pair of Sebenzas, so paying $400-plus for a knife is not new to me. I bought the Strider because I liked the design and wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. I liked the knife, but I did find it considerably overpriced for what you get. To be honest, I didn't find it all that different than a ZT 0550 when it came to build quality and fit/finish. In fact, I'd say the ZT is the better buy. My Strider had no issues and had rock solid lockup, but it did feel like a $180-$200 knife. In the end I traded it for another knife I liked better.

I think it's worth checking out...you don't like it, you can sell it for almost what you paid.

I love mine. To me, it has an interesting mix of features that are pretty different...the light weight, ruggedness, crazy looking handle that = great ergos, the more it's used the better it looks...things like that.

Mine has been smooth since day one and fit and finish are nice too.

It seems that every day there is a new thread like this. Stating a CRK, strider, emerson etc are worth 1/2 what they cost. It gets old but I still enjoy the conversation.

I carry a CRK again and will stick with it. But for me the design of the SNG is a very refined work knife. And if you get one with no issues. It is worth it. They also do a great job with heat treat.
Although I have to admit that when I got my recent CRK. I feel like I got more than I payed for based on the operation and quality alone.
As for the strider. The design and shape of the knife is what wins it for me. They certainly dont slice as well but make that up in being a brute. But its all about what we like.
Enjoy and thanks for the pictures.

Yeah I have handled a lot of Striders and a lot of CRK's and will have to agree that I think CRK is definitley more my style and F&F is superior to Strider. Don't get me wrong Strider's are tanks of knives but I def. prefer CRK!

Although it is not super refined.
You will find out it is in another league from the 0550 after you use it. And I can see that you realize it wants to be used already.

However there are better companies to buy from that offer far better appreciation and customer service.

Well said REK , that about sums it up in one sentence.

I do not get the whole Strider thing. I have a close friend that has a dozen Striders and is absolutely nuts about them despite having never once carried one or cut anything with them.

I have never been impressed with them and am not crazy about Striders reputation. I think there are better people to give $400 to, and better knives for that kind of money.

I wish someone could actually explain what a $400.00 knife should be?

You can get a knife for under $50 that will do 95% of anything you need a knife to do as an EDC, everything else is just a preference and a hobby.

To say that a CRK is worth $400.00 or a ZT is worth X, or a Strider is NOT worth $400.00 can't even be considered an opinion, rather useless babble.....

It's hard to justify the price of anything beyond what it's worth to you, and it's a very useless and difficult conversation to have, or to justify to anyone but yourself....
