My new Strider SNG......Interesting.

I do not get the whole Strider thing. I have a close friend that has a dozen Striders and is absolutely nuts about them despite having never once carried one or cut anything with them.

I have never been impressed with them and am not crazy about Striders reputation. I think there are better people to give $400 to, and better knives for that kind of money.

Awesome. I could write the exact same post, just change the name Strider to CRK......

I wish someone could actually explain what a $400.00 knife should be?

You can get a knife for under $50 that will do 95% of anything you need a knife to do as an EDC, everything else is just a preference and a hobby.

To say that a CRK is worth $400.00 or a ZT is worth X, or a Strider is NOT worth $400.00 can't even be considered an opinion, rather useless babble.....

It's hard to justify the price of anything beyond what it's worth to you, and it's a very useless and difficult conversation to have, or to justify to anyone but yourself....

If I was a little bit smarter. I would have said that, but I couldnt word it. ;)

These threads sucker me in every time Matt!

Glad to see you're enjoying your Seb. Kinda funny how these things work, but Mark got your PD#1 and I got his SMF.

I guess we are all very happy!

Oh yeah! This special 21 has been a long time coming.
He told me about that. Funny how all of us ended up with something we really love. He has been loving the PD1 from the messages I have been getting.
And your knife is an ideal SMF. I have yet to use the full flat grind. Just the 3/4.
Enjoy that thing. That is my favorite CPM 154 on the market. Without a doubt.

Thanks bro, this deal worked out for everyone!

The smoothest Strider, actually knife, I have ever owned.
Their HT is second to none, makes CPM 154 work like magic.

Enjoy that 21!

I cant help it. Good by my PD1 little buddy.
And for the Seb. It is not as shiny at the moment. I am breaking that puppy in nicely!

Agreed... 100%. "Worth" is highly subjective. I've owned nearly 20 Sebenzas and 6 or 7 ZTs. They're all gone now. The only folders I carry anymore are Emersons and Striders. They work for me in all the ways that I care about, so for my money (and nobody else's) they're worth what I paid for them. The knives I've moved along to others weren't working for me so they weren't worth me keeping them just because of what I paid for them. AFAIC, the "worth" of a tool is in how it works for me, not in what I pay for it. The Sebenzas and customs and even the ZTs I've had have been flawless in their materials and execution. They just don't feel and handle as good to me as the knives that I've kept to carry and use.

OP... enjoy the SnG. You may find that it grows on you... or you may not. If you want to move it along someone will take it. If you want to keep it and use it... it'll do just about anything a folder could be asked to do. They're very capable, even if they're not beauty queens.

I know you're joking, but Emerson at least charges a reasonable price for their production models. Most are around $200. Yeah they are 154CM linerlocks, but considering you're paying for a name as well, it seems reasonable to me.

I've avoided Strider for a reason, and probably will continue to. I recently got in to Hinderers and they definitely feel like they are worth the typical going prices (high 400s-500s), for a "hard use knife" the fit and finish is pretty good. And of course, CRK is always a win.

I beg to differ sir....... out of ALL the companies making knives, I think Emerson's are the most over priced. Their ergo's are great... awesome designs but out of the box, I've had more problems with Emerson knives than ANY manufacture combined.
Lock rock, failures, poor machining etc. And sure, the fan boys will rise up in arms, anyone with sense can't tell me a Strider smf and a "Christmas Commander" with a different color scale should be $400 apart.

I even think their beauty queens!
Great reply though, and thanks.

As you said, this is too subjective and personal.
It would have worked better if the OP had actually used his SnG for a couple of months and then came back with some fact based analysis other then not 'feeling the cost'

I agree 100%.

My sng was great. Well worth the money. Never should have sold it.

I agree completely. Except for the fact that what I like is awesome, and what I don't like sucks. :p

(Sarcasm, please don't kill me)

I skip over strikers and go for Graymans, TSF, or a Spyderco Tuff.

Definitely more bang for your buck. They'll do everything a strider will do, and you don't have to put up with the strider issues.

Yup. Had 3 SMF's. All sold now. Lock rock, un-centered blades, crummy lock up, and all. I'm done with them. Really overpriced compared to some of the other awesome options out there.

But that's just my worthless .02. If you like them, that's cool too.

Have you^ ever used a Strider?

Yeah worth is 100% subjective. While I feel the value, and I am strictly talking about what it costs Strider to build the SNG, is not there. I think you are paying that extra over other comparable knives for the name. But just because the knife was $400 does not mean it is a bad knife because it is over valued. I really like it and am not upset with what I paid for it.
