My new ZDP Leek

That scuff is quite strange - I can't ready see where it came from
Per Thomas's post - send it back and I'll put in a new blade ( quite hard to polish those out of ZDP).

Thanks,

Craig

Thanks Craig, I sent it out today priority mail.

Can't blame you for putting a new blade in. I tried to polish some S30V the other day. I can only imagine what a pain ZDP would be. I have no idea how a scuff like that would happen, especially given how nice the blade grind is. I'm suspecting something during sharpening, as ZDP is so hard it would take a serious abrasive to make a mark like that so casually.

I'm sending one of my new ZDP Leeks in to be resharpened. I just want it to be as scary-sharp as my other Kershaw knives! I only got to play with it long enough to take some pics, so thank God I have two.

Thanks Thomas W and Kershaw for such a sweet knife! I'll be looking forward to that new Cyclone 1630TiZDP!

>>Yes the handle is 6AL4V titanium.

Thanks. Now I just have to find the best price online. I don't suppose these are still around at the $120 mark?

I just got my ZDP Leek back from Kershaw. I wanted to thank Thomas and Craig for the great customer support. What was once a butter knife is now scapel sharp. The blade looks great. The only negative is a couple of minor nicks on the top of one of the scales from the shapening. No big deal though as this is going to be my off duty EDC. I an sure keys and change will scuff up the finish soon enough.
Thanks again though for getting the ZDP scary sharp. It would have taken me forever on my Sharpmaker.

I got my new Leek Ti-ZDP today. It was the one delayed from Country Knives awaiting Brian Heugel sharpening the entire shipment. It went from there to a PO Box near the US Canada border, was brought across the border and posted to me from within Canada.

Anway what a wonderful little knife, light, slim, stylish and shaving sharp. I have never shaved the back of my arm before, does the hair grow back quickly! Whatever Brian used to sharpen it, I want one of those too, and have written to ask how he sharpened it. The fit and finish are superb and the blade is perfectly centred.

Country Knives sent me a little bottle of Militec-1, presumably because of the delay in shipping it out. A nice touch to go with a great knife.

Thank you to Kershaw, Thomas, Craig and Ken Onion for my new 'going out' EDC.

Craig- I just got one of the ZDP leeks, and it has the exact same scuff on the blade as one I've seen on another forum (Dexter Ewing's knife I think). Is there any way to get this corrected, as I have no desire to try to refinish something as hard as ZDP.

This is Dex's knife, but mine looks pretty much exactly the same.

I just recieved my Leek yesterday in the mail and sadly it has the same scratches on the blade in the picture! I dont know how they got there.....I thought there might have been some rubbing going on in the closing/opening of the blade but the fit is perfect. Its right in the middle and there is not any contact with the liners......the scratches are on both sides of the blade in the exact same spots. Weird. The blade wasn't exactly the sharpest either. The E.T. I purchased at the Blade show earlier in the summer was QUITE sharp...much sharper than this one.

Dont get me wrong though. This is one heck of a knife! Very comfortable....extremely lightweight and flicks right open. I love the AO feature. Its great.....JMHO.
Is it ok to send it to the same address that was listed earlier for this problem? Id just like to have the scratches fixed ( or replaced with another blade if possible) and have it SUPER sharp! :D

Put me on the list of not-so-sharp ZDP Leeks. I spent most of the Florida-Tennessee game (go Gators!!) trying to get the knife up to the level of my other Kershaws, but no success so far.

Before I send it in, has anyone had any success using just the Sharpmaker? I don't mind putting in the time, but I need to know that eventually I'll get the blade up to the level of my other Kershaws.

Kind of makes you appreciate VG-10.

I reprofiled one with a set of diamond rods, but it took several hours. I wouldn't do it again.

I just ordered mine in late august, it hasnt come yet. Has anyone recieved any from the August batch? Do they exhibit any of the same problems?

Received my re-sharpened ZDP Leek back in about a week after Kershaw got it, and all is well (and sharp!). Great customer service. A ZDP Blur would be pretty cool....

Just wanted to update anyone who still cares. I got my zdp leek today and it was VERY VERY dull. Sawing on the edge of paper and it didnt cut at all. July 06 batch.

Now I have to wait another week, very depressing :(

I also got a July '06 model of the Leek ZDP a couple months ago. It was also very dull. I am in the process of sharpening it myself but it has been very frustrating. I am not even able to get a burr started after using the coarse stone for quite a while. I figure I better figure out sharpening it now because I would not want to send it in everytime it needs a keen edge.

My Ti/ZDP Leek is from the July batch and it's pretty sharp. Maybe not quite as sharp as most of my Spyderco's but it can easily shave arm hair. Looks like about 20 degrees per side (40 deg. included). I guess I was lucky? :)

Just getting into this and my first purchase is a ZDP Leek and if all goes well I will recieve the knife after it has been sent back to Kershaw by its original owner for sharpening.
(Cheers Deaths Head)
From what I have read it seems to be a decent performer.
Now I will have to get the sharpening down pat!
