My Old 110....or is it?

Naw, darn it....no box. I was (original post) dead sure that I bought it in 1968, now that I think about it, it could have been early in 1969 (the days just sort of blended together on Guam).

But, the way the Navy Exchange system worked, it could have been sitting around in warehouses for a couple of years before I bought it, too.

When I was in Japan in 1966 they were selling pre-64 Model 70 Winchesters for $139 in the Base Exchange at Yokosuka. Now that was an opportunity missed.

Well heck, I'll go try for more pictures.

I'm not sure I understand this "thin blade" thing. Mine is almost exactly 1/8th of an inch across the top, anyhow.

That's a lot of versions, Buck 110.....suppose I were to start collecting these......what books would I have to buy?

I believe the best one to buy today is Blade's Guide to Knives and Their Values. It has some great informatilon on the 110. This is not Levine's 5th Edition!

Hope this makes everything clear.....I was already away taking pics when you asked for both sides of rear bolster, but I can get it if you need it.

The version of the Blade Guide we talk about here is the 6th edition - 2005

The additional(very nice) pictures help! That's a 4th version/1st variation. Knowing that, the sheath you mentioned with 110 above the belt loop is indeed correct for your knife.

Well, I'm glad to hear that about the sheath (I thought I had accidently switched it with another I bought a few years later and ended up with a sheath for a 72 model).

Thanks much for checking on this for me. I have learned more about 110s in the last couple of days than I thought possible......never knew it was so complicated.

If anybody else has book recommendations, post'em.

Thanks to all.

There is another book that is fun reading. "The History of Buck Knives" by Tom Ables

Shows up on ebay sometimes. Someone here may have an extra copy..

I will watch to see what it goes for.....and I bought that Buck history book today--figured that would be a good place to start.

Still confused about the Blade's Guide book.....would this be the right edition? It's what comes up on Amazon so it must be the latest edition, but unfortunately--it doesn't say what edition it is.

(Trying to post a pic.)

Or might this be the hated FIFTH edition?

That is the correct 6th edition... A good price also, even with shipping. But look around some more...

I officially deem you addicted   :D

Kinda looks that way. Never thought that old knife was so interesting until I asked about it.

:)

Great pics.
You have a great knife!

I tried the breathing on my bolster to get it to show the rear rivets...still no luck. So, all I know is that mine is "old".

All this is making me think (ouch).

How many versions are there total? How many variations of each version?

How would one identify them?

Does the blade guide book give that information and show how they all differ from each other? Or is there some other reference that does?

Ouch.
